GUIDE · BATTLE STRATEGY
Late-game gold conservation
When gold declines, preserve premium units and use affordable troops for routine fighting where the matchup allows.

Overview
When gold declines, preserve premium units and use affordable troops for routine fighting where the matchup allows.
Plan and execution
Track deposits, reserve gold for decisive units and upgrades, establish team trade early, and contest remaining resources only when worthwhile.
Risks and adaptation
Switching too early to weak substitutes loses initiative; replacing every expensive casualty empties reserves. Adapt to the enemy composition.
Decision example
Look at remaining gold deposits, stored gold, Relics, and possible team trade before starting an expensive upgrade. Save the scarce resource for a line that has no cheap replacement, such as siege needed to remove a Castle. Match low-gold troops to their job: Skirmishers cover ranged threats, Spearmen cover cavalry, and Light Cavalry can raid or chase support. Do not sacrifice a large cheap army into a bad counter simply because it costs no gold. Retain enough income to replace a lost Monastery, siege workshop, or trade route.
