Overview

Mangudai excel at pressuring slower targets and can remove Rams with their siege bonus, giving a mobile army both harassment and a response to siege pushes. Their strength comes from choosing favorable firing windows.

Plan and execution

Use a group to harass Villagers or Monks, then turn onto a Ram that is separated from its escort. Keep moving while firing and use scouting to avoid enemy Onagers or a concentrated Scorpion mass. Bring a screen if the Mangudai must hold a position rather than kite.

Risks and adaptation

Attacking massed Scorpions or Mangonels can still be dangerous despite the siege bonus. Do not chase slow units into fortified fire or let melee cavalry close around the group.
