Overview

Siege adds reach or area pressure while a supporting army protects it from dives.

Plan and execution

Select siege for the obstacle, move it with an escort, and focus one opening rather than splitting damage. Keep repair or replacement resources available.

Risks and adaptation

Isolated siege is vulnerable to Monks, cavalry, and raids. Scout the route and withdraw if the escort disappears. Put units that can catch cavalry between the siege and likely approach, and leave room to withdraw. If the push stalls, preserve siege instead of leaving it isolated or surrounded.

Decision example

Choose the building or defensive line that blocks the army's next objective, then bring the right siege behind a screen. Rams can absorb structure fire at close range, while Mangonels threaten clustered units and other siege; neither should lead without vision. Keep infantry or cavalry ready for defenders that try to dive the machines. After the first wall or Castle falls, move the rally route forward only when the new ground can be held.
