Effect and affected units

Obsidian Arrows changes A former Mayan Castle technology that gave archer-line units bonus damage against buildings. The Definitive Edition removed it and introduced Hul’che Javelineers in its place. Read the named target carefully: this effect applies only to the units, buildings, or economy described in its entry. This is the main reason to research it; compare the affected units with the army you expect to field.

Research cost and timing

Research is available in The Forgotten at the Castle. The recorded cost is not separately recorded, and the research time is not separately recorded. Consider whether the upgrade will affect enough units or workers to repay that investment before the match is decided.

Matchup plan: Obsidian Arrows archer-siege partnership

Obsidian Arrows lets Mayan archer groups apply more direct pressure to buildings, allowing them to support a siege push from range. Use the archer mass against structures while dedicated units protect it from counters Research the technology when Mayan Archers are already massed and the opponent’s Town Centers or production sites are reachable. Keep the archers together to focus one building, and add Pikemen or Eagle Warriors to protect against cavalry and Skirmishers. Use siege for fortified targets and let the archers keep pressure on exposed buildings while the siege line advances The upgrade does not remove the need for Blacksmith attack and range improvements, which also help against units. It does not benefit Plumed Archers, and unsupported archers can still be chased away by their counters. Do not divert the army from a safer siege target just because a building is within range

Effect and research timing

A former Mayan Castle technology that gave archer-line units bonus damage against buildings. The Definitive Edition removed it and introduced Hul’che Javelineers in its place. Research at: Castle. This is a historical entry; check its release context because it is not necessarily available in the current standard technology set. Its value depends on which units receive the effect and how often they take part in combat; timing it before a major engagement can improve the whole eligible group.
