Conscription

Conscription is a rapid militia call in Age of Empires III. Researching it immediately produces the defensive force assigned to the player’s civilization, making it an emergency reinforcement rather than a permanent unit unlock.

Effect and research cost

The research takes 5 seconds and costs 400 Food plus 400 Coin. Depending on the available roster, it spawns 12 Militiamen, 16 Minutemen, 12 Bashibozuks, 12 Burgher Militia or 12 Snaphaner. The group can reinforce a threatened position quickly, but still uses population and should be treated as a temporary addition to the standing army.

Cooldown and Home City access

Europeans can research it from the Exploration Age at the Town Center. The United States receives it in the Industrial Age and can research it at the Town Center, Outpost, Blockhouse or Fort. Home City access and the militia group depend on civilization-specific cards and rules.

Availability and research site

Use Conscription when a nearby objective or base needs troops before normal production could arrive. Check the spawned unit type and reserve enough population before researching. The 400 Food and 400 Coin cost competes with age advancement and army production, so a call that cannot reach the threatened area in time is poor value.

United States shared cooldown

The United States rule records a 160-second cooldown shared by structures that provide Conscription or Patrol. Changing the research building does not create a second independent call during that period. Plan another defense around the cooldown rather than assuming the technology can be repeated immediately.

Home City cards and unit groups

The recorded profile associates European access with Town Militia, United States access with Minutemen Companies, and an Ottoman card with City Defense. Because the delivered group differs between civilization rules, read the current Home City and technology profile before counting on a specific militia counter.
