Effect & research conditions

Research costs 100 Food and 100 Coin and takes 30 seconds. The bonus applies to the listed unit classifications, not Villagers or every unit in the army. Check the roster tags of special troops before assuming they qualify, and secure the Cree settlement post while the research completes.

Research condition

Available from the Exploration Age. Research it at Trading Post or Tambo on a Cree settlement.

When to research

Research when the army contains several affected units and expects repeated engagements. Five percent additional hit points can help troops survive focused fire, but does not add damage or change their counters. If only a small portion of the force qualifies, the same Food and Coin may be better spent on a direct unit upgrade or replacements.

A broad defensive bonus for mixed armies

Cree Tanning can support a combined force because it applies to Infantry, Cavalry and Shock Troops. The added health helps eligible units remain on the field, but the technology does not improve siege units or workers unless they carry one of the listed tags. Pair it with positioning that prevents the opponent from focusing one class at a time. The settlement access and 30-second wait make it worthwhile to plan before an engagement, rather than researching while the army is already losing units.
