Envoy
Envoy is a Dutch scout from the original Age of Empires III. It costs 50 Food, takes 15 seconds to train and has 200 hit points, 4.0 speed and 26 line of sight. Its job is reconnaissance: it reveals routes, resources and enemy positions but is not a Dutch Explorer or a combat unit.

Role & counters
The Envoy’s 26 line of sight is its main value; its 5-damage hand attack and 10% ranged resistance do not make it suitable for fighting. Send it across safe routes early to locate resources, Trade Route access and enemy approaches, then keep it away from direct combat. The recorded availability is the Exploration Age at the Town Center, with additional access through the Explorer under the listed Dutch rules. Use the information to choose where workers and the first army should go rather than spending the scout’s health on a low-value fight.

Dutch; original game and Definitive Edition; scout unit focused on line of sight rather than combat.
When to field it
Use the Envoy before committing workers or military units to a route, and scout again when the map situation changes. Dutch players can use the early vision to identify Trading Post sites and observe an opponent’s opening. If the Envoy is threatened, retreat: losing the scout removes its vision without weakening the enemy army. The Explorer remains the hero for claiming Treasures and fighting guardians.
