Kyudo
Kyudo is a Fortress Age Japanese Monastery technology that raises the damage cap for Sohei Archer ranged and hand attacks by 50%. It costs 500 Wood and 500 Coin and takes 15 seconds to research. The effect is specific to the Sohei Archer and its two listed attack types; it does not increase the damage of Yumi Archers or all Japanese ranged units. Its value depends on fielding the affected unit and on the attack cap actually limiting its damage.

Effect & research conditions
Research it at the Monastery before relying on Sohei Archers in a sustained fight. The higher cap affects both ranged and hand attack damage according to the technology record, so the unit may benefit at either engagement distance. Continue to use the Sohei Archer’s ordinary matchups and support requirements; a higher damage cap does not remove its counters.
Research condition
Japanese; Fortress Age; researched at the Monastery; costs 500 Wood and 500 Coin; 15-second research time; Sohei Archer ranged and hand attack damage cap +50%.
When to research
Choose Kyudo when Sohei Archers form a substantial part of the army and the 1,000-resource cost is justified by repeated combat. If the army is using other unit lines, this specialist upgrade has little immediate return. Time it before an engagement rather than after the affected units have already taken losses.
A cap increase for Sohei Archers only
Kyudo raises the damage cap on both the Sohei Archer’s ranged and hand attacks by 50%. The scope is the named unit and its two attack modes; it does not improve Yumi Archers or grant a general Japanese damage bonus. It also leaves health, movement, range and resistance unchanged, so continue to use the Sohei Archer according to its existing battlefield role.
Pay for it when Sohei Archers will see repeated combat
The research requires 500 Wood and 500 Coin in the Fortress Age. That investment is easiest to justify when Sohei Archers will remain in the army long enough to benefit from the higher cap. If the force is mostly another Japanese unit line, or the Sohei Archers are likely to be lost before they fight, use those resources for the army or economy that is already active.
