Function & construction

Asian Villagers and Monastery Rickshaws can construct it. The building trains special units and offers Monk-related research; its recorded Experience trickle is 0.7 per second. It is distinct from civilization-specific temples or monasteries that serve another function, such as the Athos Monastery.

Placement & timing

Build it when an available special unit or Monk technology fills a role in the army, and early enough for its passive Experience to accumulate. Check the roster for the chosen civilization before investing. Protect the site so its research, recruitment and shipment progression can continue.

Asian roster, technologies and Experience

The Asian Monastery is available to Chinese, Indians and Japanese from the Exploration Age. It costs 225 Wood, takes 20 seconds to build, has 3,000 hit points and is limited to one; Asian Villagers and the Monastery Rickshaw can construct it. Its role combines the European Tavern’s outlaw and mercenary access with Monk-specific technologies. Recruits are generally the corresponding Tavern units with a Repentant prefix, while the exact choices and research depend on the civilization. Examples include Training Forms for Chinese Shaolin Masters (100 Food and 100 Coin), White Tiger Training for Indian Brahmins (75 Food and 75 Coin), and Reiki for Japanese Sohei Archers (200 Wood and 100 Coin). Later research includes The Five Precepts for Chinese Disciples, Improved Healing for Brahmins and Intonjutsu Stealth for Sohei Archers. Since update 50830, the Monastery also gathers 0.7 XP per second. Its construction and destruction XP changed by version: The Asian Dynasties lists 20 XP for building and 40 XP for destruction; Definitive Edition lists 45 and 90. Build it when its civilization-specific research or special units answer a real army need, and protect the building so its experience trickle has time to accumulate.

Experience return by release

A completed Monastery grants 20 XP and gives 40 XP when destroyed in The Asian Dynasties. Definitive Edition raised those one-time values to 45 XP for construction and 90 XP on destruction, while the passive 0.7 XP-per-second trickle was added later with The African Royals update. This means its long-term value grows with how long it remains active.

Asian mercenary access and passive Experience

The Monastery is an Asian Exploration Age building that trains Outlaws and Mercenaries, provides Monk technologies and automatically gathers 0.7 Experience per second in the recorded profile. It costs 225 Wood and is limited to one. Asian Villagers and Monastery Rickshaws can construct it, but each civilization has its own roster and research. Do not assume it shares the functions of the Athos Monastery or another religious building.

Choose special units by matchup

Build the Monastery when its available mercenary or technology fills a specific army role and when passive Experience can accumulate safely. Check the production list for the selected Asian civilization before investing, and maintain Coin for the units it offers. Protect the building so the recruitment and shipment progression remain available. Its special troops can complement a standard army, but they do not remove the need to produce ordinary units and protect the base.
