Research takes 30 seconds.

Research condition

Available to All from the Imperial Age. Research it at Capitol (Europeans and Mexicans), Town Center (Asians, Maya, and Native Americans), or State Capitol (United States).

When to research

Prepare the affected buildings or positions before researching Legendary Native Warriors; Exalted Natives: Upgrades native warriors to Legendary/Exalted/Imperial (hit points and damage +50%); Somali Darood Militia ranged attack range +2. The benefit matters only while those structures are part of the plan and can be protected; keep troops available to hold the area. Use the Capitol (Europeans and Mexicans), Town Center (Asians, Maya, and Native Americans), or State Capitol (United States) for research. Research takes 30 seconds and costs 1,500 food, 1,500 wood.

Effects on eligible native units

This Imperial Age technology promotes affected Native Warriors to the highest named rank available to their unit and civilization: Legendary, Exalted or Imperial. Those units gain 50% hit points and damage. Somali Darood Militia are a named exception; their listed benefit is two additional range on the ranged attack rather than the generic hit-point and damage increase. The special effect is not a blanket bonus to every Native unit on the map, so check the unit's upgrade path before committing the resources.

Research location depends on the civilization

Europeans and Mexicans research the technology at the Capitol. Asian civilizations, Maya and Native American civilizations use the Town Center, while the United States uses the State Capitol. It becomes available in the Imperial Age, costs 1,500 Food and 1,500 Wood, and takes 30 seconds. Its broad availability does not mean every civilization has the same native allies or eligible unit roster; the effect applies only where the corresponding native upgrade exists.

Plan the late-game investment

The two-resource cost is significant, so research when an eligible native force will remain in the army long enough to benefit. A permanent 50% improvement can strengthen a fielded group and later reinforcements, while the Somali range bonus instead changes how far its Militia can threaten targets. Complete the research before the next major engagement and protect the building during the 30-second queue. If no eligible units are active or expected, spend the resources on the army that must fight now.
