Levy

Levy is an Exploration Age call-up technology for European civilizations and Federal Americans in Definitive Edition. Researching it summons six militia units instead of unlocking a permanent production line. Depending on the civilization and ruleset, the delivery uses its militia variant: Militiamen, Minutemen, Bashibozuks, Burgher Militia or Snaphaner.

Effect & research conditions

Research Levy for 150 Food and 150 Coin; it takes five seconds. Europeans research it at the Town Center. The United States can also research its militia call-up at an Outpost, Blockhouse or Fort. The six units are a one-time reinforcement, so choose a rally point and leave population space before starting the research. They do not replace the normal Barracks or Stable queue.

Research condition

Exploration Age; Europeans research at the Town Center; United States access also includes Outposts, Blockhouses and Forts; costs 150 Food and 150 Coin; five-second research; summons six civilization-specific militia units.

When to research

Use Levy when a quick militia group can protect Villagers, reinforce a push or buy time for regular production. It is particularly useful when the enemy’s attack is close enough that a normal training queue would finish too late. Do not treat it as a permanent army plan: after the six units arrive, the player still needs production buildings and resources to maintain the force.

A short defensive call-up

The six-unit call-up is a one-time force, not a permanent production queue. Since the eligible militia type varies by civilization, check which version the current game will spawn and use it to reinforce the threatened area or accompany an attack. Its low 150 Food and 150 Coin cost makes timing more important than long-term scaling.

A one-time call-up, not a unit unlock

Levy converts a short research action into six militia units. It does not make those units permanently trainable at the building, nor does it upgrade existing troops. Use the delivered group to answer a timing problem or reinforce the army while the ordinary production line continues. After the call-up is spent, plan replacements through the civilization’s normal military roster.

The militia type depends on the civilization

The technology entry lists Militiamen, Minutemen, Bashibozuks, Burgher Militia and Snaphaner as its possible deliveries. The exact variant is determined by the active civilization and ruleset, so check the in-game technology panel before relying on a specific counter. Keep the six-unit group together and use it for the role its unit type can perform; a quick reinforcement still needs support against the opponent’s main army.
