Pambuu the Tame Warthog

Pambuu the Tame Warthog is a special pet unit associated with The African Royals in Definitive Edition and is listed as available from a Bandit Catamaran. It has 200 hit points, moves at 5.0 speed, costs 150 Food and takes 17 seconds to train. Its 12-damage hand attack deals twice its normal damage to Treasure guardians and only one tenth against Villagers. That profile suits clearing guarded rewards far better than ordinary worker harassment.

Role, availability & values

Use Pambuu to help engage a Treasure guardian, keeping the Explorer or other reward-claiming hero safe until the area is clear. It has enough speed to approach with the force but should not be sent alone into multiple guardians. Its modest health means it can be lost quickly under concentrated fire, and its reduced damage against Villagers gives little reason to divert it into a raid.

Training & availability

The African Royals; available from a Bandit Catamaran; 200 hit points; 5.0 speed; costs 150 Food; 17-second training time; 12 hand damage; 2.0x vs Treasure guardian and 0.1x vs Villager.

Matchup & timing

Consider training it when a Bandit Catamaran provides access and a nearby Treasure justifies the Food investment. Coordinate its arrival with the hero and supporting units so the reward can be claimed immediately after the fight. Its role and access are scenario- and roster-dependent rather than universal.

Treasure rewards and pet upgrades

Pambuu can be rescued from Treasures on African random maps and trained from Bandit Catamarans on the Horn and Swahili Coast. Its 12-damage hand attack has a 2.0 multiplier against Treasure Guardians but only 0.1 against Villagers, which makes it a guardian-clearing pet rather than a worker-raiding unit. It begins with 200 hit points, 5.0 speed and 10% hand resistance; its training profile costs 150 Food and takes 17 seconds. Pets automatically scale with Age advances, gaining 20% hit points and damage in Commerce, 30% in Fortress, 40% in Industrial and 60% in Imperial Age. Use Pambuu alongside the Explorer when a Treasure justifies the Food cost, and protect it from enemies outside its narrow role. Its access differs by map: the Treasure reward is not the same as Catamaran production, and not every African map provides both options.

Treasure reward versus Catamaran production

The pet may be rescued from a Treasure on several African maps, or trained from a Bandit Catamaran on the Horn and Swahili Coast. These access paths are distinct: the random Treasure is a one-time map reward, while the Catamaran can produce Pambuu for 150 Food and a 17-second wait. Its strong Treasure Guardian multiplier makes it useful when an Explorer needs help, but its low damage against Villagers means it cannot replace ordinary raiding cavalry.

African pet from Treasure or ship access

Pambuu the Tame Warthog is a pet unit in The African Royals. It may be rescued from Treasure on several African maps and can be trained from Bandit Catamarans on the Horn and Swahili Coast. It has 200 hit points, speed 5, 12 line of sight and 10% hand resistance. Its 12-damage hand attack has a 2× bonus against Treasure guardians and only a 0.1× modifier against Villagers, matching its role as a helper for Treasure encounters rather than a worker-raiding unit.

A small guardian-fighting investment

Training Pambuu costs 150 Food and takes 17 seconds; the listed limit is seven. Pets improve automatically with each Age, so the warthog’s strength changes as the match progresses without a separate upgrade choice. Bring it with the Explorer and supporting troops when clearing a guardian group, then keep it out of fights where its low base damage and weak Villager modifier provide little value. If access comes from a map Treasure, account for that scenario reward rather than assuming the Bandit Catamaran option is available everywhere.
