Sámi Reindeer

Sámi Reindeer is both huntable wildlife and herdable livestock in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition. In The Baltic Powers, Sámi Reindeer Herding also unlocks it as a trainable animal at Trading Posts and Tambos on Sámi settlements. This dual role matters: the reindeer can be raised from an initial shipment, trained in a group or hunted for its finite Food value.

Role, availability & values

The Sámi Reindeer Herding technology sends two reindeer and unlocks training in groups of four. Each group costs 400 Coin and takes 60 seconds; the train limit is 12. A reindeer has 100 hit points, 4.0 speed and 9 line of sight, and its carcass provides 250 Food for up to eight gatherers. It is a loyal herd animal that cannot be stolen and does not fatten. The animal was introduced in Knights of the Mediterranean; the listed Sámi settlement training route is part of The Baltic Powers content.

Training & availability

Definitive Edition; requires Sámi Reindeer Herding for training; Trading Post or Tambo on a Sámi settlement; trained in groups of four for 400 Coin; 60 seconds; limit 12; 100 hit points; 4.0 speed; 9 line of sight; 250 Food per carcass; up to eight gatherers; cannot be stolen and does not fatten.

Matchup & timing

Use the training option when a Sámi settlement is available and a four-animal delivery is worth 400 Coin. The group can create a Food reserve, but the animals do not gain Food by fattening, so their timing differs from ordinary livestock. If using them as a Hunt, protect the gathering site and plan another source after the 250 Food carcasses are consumed. They are not a combat unit.

A trainable herd animal, not a military unit

Sámi Reindeer belongs to the hunted and herded animal classes. The Sámi Reindeer Herding research delivers two and unlocks groups of four at a Trading Post or Tambo built on a Sámi settlement. The reindeer cannot be stolen by another player and does not fatten, so it should not be managed like a normal Cow or Sheep. It has no listed attack role.

Food reserve and finite carcass value

Each animal contains 250 Food and can support up to eight gatherers at its carcass. The reindeer has 100 hit points, 4.0 speed and 9 line of sight, which describes the animal rather than a battle profile. Decide whether to keep the herd near the economy or hunt it; once gathered, that Food is exhausted and the animal does not grow into a larger carcass over time.

Separate release and training context

The Sámi Reindeer appeared as an animal in Knights of the Mediterranean. The Sámi Reindeer Herding technology and Sámi-settlement training route are documented under The Baltic Powers. Keep the map wildlife entry distinct from the later technology that lets a player obtain additional animals.
