Age-up reward & access

Selected for the Industrial Age; available to Europeans except the Dutch. The recorded advance cost is 2,000 Food and 1,200 Coin and takes 90 seconds. Reward details: Industrial Age reward: Portuguese: 2 Organ Guns Others: 2 Falconets + 1 Falconet (with the "Advanced Politicians" Home City Card; Italians only). The available choices and exact reward depend on civilization and game release.

When to choose it

Choose The Engineer when its listed reward supports the next economic or military objective. Compare its cost and advance time with other available politicians, and check that the reward belongs to the current civilization and release.

Industrial artillery shipment

The Engineer is an Industrial Age politician available to Europeans except the Dutch. Advancing costs 2,000 Food and 1,200 Coin and takes 90 seconds. Portuguese receive two Organ Guns; other eligible civilizations receive two Falconets in the recorded profile. With the Advanced Politicians Home City Card, Italians receive an additional Falconet, changing their shipment. These artillery rewards arrive at the end of a long transition and can create a siege or anti-infantry timing push. Keep infantry or cavalry nearby to screen the guns, and rally them to a safe position before moving toward enemy defenses. Portuguese Organ Guns differ from Falconets, so use the appropriate unit entries to understand their attacks and counters. The Dutch are excluded from The Engineer, and the Italian bonus depends on the card; verify both availability and shipment before committing. Choose the politician when the army can protect and exploit artillery soon after aging, rather than selecting it automatically. If the opponent has strong cavalry or counter-artillery, prepare an escort and reconnaissance before sending the guns forward.

Cannon timing and civ-specific reward

The Engineer’s 90-second Industrial transition uses 2,000 Food and 1,200 Coin. Portuguese receive two Organ Guns in the recorded profile; other eligible European civilizations receive two Falconets. Italians with Advanced Politicians receive an additional Falconet, while the Dutch are excluded from the politician. These are siege units that should arrive behind a protective screen. Falconets can punish groups and structures, while Organ Guns use a different attack pattern, so use the relevant unit entry to plan target selection. Start the transition when the army can hold the settlement and the artillery will have a target after arrival. Keep the guns together, use infantry or cavalry to stop enemy units from reaching them and avoid walking them into enemy Culverins or heavy cavalry. Check the active card and civilization before selecting the Engineer; its added Italian reward is conditional and not part of the baseline for every faction.

Protect the arriving guns

Rally Falconets or Organ Guns behind a screen and avoid moving them alone into enemy cavalry or counter-artillery. The Italian extra Falconet requires Advanced Politicians.

Civilization and card check

The Dutch cannot select The Engineer. Portuguese receive Organ Guns, other eligible Europeans receive Falconets, and the Italian third gun requires Advanced Politicians.

Artillery counters

Falconets and Organ Guns need protection from cavalry and enemy Culverins. Scout the approach, keep the guns behind a screen and focus on the structure or army target that justifies the transition.

Industrial advance and artillery shipment

The Engineer is an Industrial Age politician available to Europeans except the Dutch in the recorded profile. The advance costs 2,000 Food and 1,200 Coin and takes 90 seconds. Its reward is military and civilization-specific: Portuguese receive two Organ Guns, while other listed civilizations receive two Falconets; Italians can receive an additional Falconet with the Advanced Politicians Home City Card. The shipment’s value depends on whether the army can protect and use the artillery when it arrives. Keep population space available, scout for cavalry threats and plan infantry support before choosing this advance.

Timing the artillery reward

An artillery shipment can turn an Industrial timing into pressure on enemy buildings or clustered units, but guns that arrive without a screen are easy targets. Begin the age-up when the base can hold for 90 seconds, then gather the resources needed for the next infantry or cavalry production. Portuguese Organ Guns and other civilizations’ Falconets are not interchangeable profiles, and the Italian card condition should not be assumed without the card in the deck. Compare The Engineer with other Industrial politicians by weighing the immediate force against economic rewards and the opponent’s counters. Confirm the current reward in the interface because politician packages can differ by civilization and release.
