Role & counters

Organ Guns deal area damage and occupy multiple population slots. Their projectiles are effective against groups, but the guns are vulnerable to Cavalry, Culverins and other artillery counters. Keep them behind a screen and avoid clustering them where opposing artillery can hit several at once.

When to field it

Position Organ Guns behind the frontline and focus fire on dense formations. Keep anti-cavalry units close and reposition if the opponent brings Culverins or fast melee troops. Use them while their area damage can shape the fight, and protect the guns as the army advances.

Area pressure from the Portuguese artillery line

The Organ Gun is a Fortress Age Portuguese artillery option costing 100 Wood and 300 Coin. It uses four population, has 150 hit points with 75% ranged resistance, and fires at range 26 every four seconds with an area-of-effect profile. This spread makes it most useful against groups packed together, especially Infantry, rather than isolated targets. Its reduced damage against Buildings and its low mobility mean it should advance behind the army instead of being sent to siege alone. Cavalry can reach it, and enemy Culverins can outrange and counter it; screen the guns with Heavy Infantry or anti-cavalry and move them when the opponent brings artillery. Several Organ Guns clustered together can also become an easy target for enemy area damage.
