Role, availability & values

The rickshaw has 250 hit points and moves at 4.0 speed. It must reach a valid Trading Post site and finish construction before route or settlement benefits begin. The available effects depend on whether the location is a Trade Route or a Minor civilization settlement.

Matchup & timing

Scout the route and nearby settlement before choosing a site. Protect the rickshaw while it travels, then defend the completed post if the opponent can capture it. Build where the route reward or ally roster supports a real plan rather than treating every site as equally useful.

Route, settlement and shipment value

A Trading Post Rickshaw places a free Trading Post at a valid site, but the site determines what the structure does. On a Trade Route, it opens access to route progression and shipments; beside a Minor civilization settlement, it enables an alliance and the associated unit or technology choices. Asian civilizations, the United States and Indonesia can receive the mobile builder through their respective access paths. Scout the route and settlement before moving the 250-hit-point, 4.0-speed wagon, because an opponent can destroy it before it establishes the post. Prefer a location that reinforces an actual plan: a route station for shipment progression, or a Native alliance whose roster complements the army. The wagon is consumed when it constructs the building, so use the Trading Post itself as the protected long-term investment and avoid treating the builder as a military unit.

Older-version death reward

In The Asian Dynasties, a Trading Post Rickshaw grants 60 XP when killed. Definitive Edition removed that reward. The Rickshaw still has 250 hit points and is consumed by the free Trading Post construction, so escorting it is important regardless of the opponent’s XP gain. A finished post then serves its actual map purpose: route shipments on a Trade Route or an alliance at a Native settlement.

Choosing the post before moving the wagon

A Trade Route Trading Post advances the shipment route, while a post at a Minor civilization site provides access to an alliance. The rickshaw is consumed on placement, so scouting first prevents wasting the free structure on a contested or strategically irrelevant location. Older Asian Dynasties wagons granted 60 XP when killed; Definitive Edition removed that reward.

Japanese mobile Trading Post builder

The Trading Post Rickshaw is a Japanese construction wagon that places a Trading Post without the ordinary building cost. It has 250 hit points, speed 4 and 18 line of sight. Its purpose is to let Japan establish access to a Trade Route or a Native settlement using a dedicated wagon rather than assigning a Villager to construct the post. A Trading Post’s benefits depend on its site: a route post contributes to progression and shipments, while a settlement post can open allied units or technologies.

Scout the route and settlement first

Before sending the Rickshaw out, compare nearby Trade Route sockets and Minor civilization settlements with the Japanese army’s needs. The wagon must reach a legal location and can be intercepted on the way, so scout and escort it where opponents contest the map. A free Trading Post still consumes time and exposes a valuable mobile unit; place it where the player can defend the route or settlement afterward. Confirm the wagon’s source and available post choices in the selected version, since Japanese construction wagons have separate roles.
