Overview
Tariq ibn Ziyad establishes a foothold in Iberia by defeating King Roderic, then turns toward Cordoba. Rally local support and withstand the Visigoth response while opening a route to the city’s Castle.
Player approach
The Battle of Guadalete asks Tariq to defeat Roderic and ultimately destroy Cordoba’s Castle. Use the starting cavalry to recruit local and converted forces, while respecting the mission’s Castle Age and population limits.
Step-by-step plan
Move Tariq’s cavalry toward the locals to gain infantry support, then continue north and bring Roderic’s Army units into your control. Draw defenders into smaller fights instead of charging the full force at once. Secure Relics on the western and southeastern islands if the routes are safe, and establish production within the 120-population limit. Build siege support for the final approach to Cordoba’s Castle.
Risks and adjustments
The player cannot advance to Imperial Age, so do not plan around Imperial upgrades. Protect the captured army and keep a screen around siege; Roderic’s troops can be thinned by luring rather than meeting the full force head-on.
