Choosing an opening plan

Choose an opening by reading the map, resource access, and the opponent’s first buildings instead of following one build order every match.

Overview

Choose an opening by reading the map, resource access, and the opponent’s first buildings instead of following one build order every match.

Plan and execution

On open Arabia, consider early mobile or ranged pressure if exposed resources can be reached; on walled Arena, use the extra breathing room to prepare a Castle Age plan while scouting the center. Compare a Scout rush, Archer rush, Men-at-Arms rush, or Fast Castle against the defender’s access to Spearmen, walls, and safe Town Centers.

Risks and adaptation

A good opening can still fail when the map layout or opponent’s response changes. Keep Villager production active, scout again after the first contact, and move from the initial plan to defense or a new unit line when its purpose has been met.
