Engaging under a Castle
A Castle’s range can turn a small skirmish into a costly fight. Pressure nearby only when the army has room to act without remaining under fire.

Overview
A Castle’s range can turn a small skirmish into a costly fight. Pressure nearby only when the army has room to act without remaining under fire.
Plan and execution
Check the structure’s coverage and use terrain, siege, or a separate raid route to make the defender choose where to respond. Keep fragile units outside the danger area until the Castle is occupied or its support is removed.
Risks and adaptation
Do not chase units beneath the Castle or gather siege where it can be focused. If the position cannot be broken safely, contest another resource or route.
Decision example
A Castle can punish units that linger while attacking nearby workers or buildings. Decide whether the objective requires destroying it or only moving around it. Trebuchets and protected siege can force a direct response; a mobile raid can instead attack resources outside its range. Keep the main army out of fire while the siege works, and watch for defenders emerging from the Castle or a side route. If the attack cannot protect its engines, pull back rather than trading troops for minor damage.
