Opening decision and first timing
Faster Villager gathering, building, and repair can smooth any opening, but it does not dictate a single rush. Decide from scouting whether to defend the early economy or spend the lead on Feudal pressure. Stronger infantry armor research is most useful when a Barracks line already has a reason to fight.
Composition, counters, and transition
Legionaries and Centurions support an infantry-centered push, and discounted-gold Scorpions can threaten clustered units from behind it. Screen siege and do not let slow infantry be pulled around the map by raids. The armored Galley and Dromon lines give a water option when a Dock route matters; keep land production going if the map cannot support a full fleet.

Technology & transition
Scale into Castle Age and Imperial Age before committing to the full armored infantry and siege composition.
Watch for
The power curve favors a prepared midgame; scout early pressure and cover technology-tree omissions with support units.
