Bourbon Reforms

Bourbon Reforms is an Exploration Age technology in The African Royals / Knights of the Mediterranean content set, associated with the House of Bourbon. It can be researched at a Trading Post or Tambo on a House of Bourbon palace, and the French can access it at the Royal Embassy after sending the Ancien Régime Home City Card. Its reward converts later and earlier economic investment into Experience.

Effect & research conditions

Research takes 10 seconds and costs 300 Food, 300 Wood and 300 Coin. It grants Experience equal to 20% of resources spent on technologies, including Age advancements. It also awards 60 Experience for each Exploration Age shipment, 140 for each Commerce Age shipment, 200 for each Fortress Age shipment and 320 for each Industrial Age shipment, up to a 2,000 Experience cap. The shipment amounts include eligible infinite shipments, and the benefit is retroactive for technologies and shipments already received.

Research condition

Exploration Age; Trading Post or Tambo on a House of Bourbon palace, or French Royal Embassy after the Ancien Régime card; 10 seconds; 300 Food, 300 Wood and 300 Coin; +20% of resources spent on technologies as Experience; shipment awards of 60 / 140 / 200 / 320 Experience by age, capped at 2,000; applies retroactively.

When to research

Because the technology rewards prior activity as well as future spending, its value depends on how many technologies and shipments the player has accumulated and expects to send. Research it before a sustained late shipment sequence when possible, but account for the 900-resource cost and the cap. It does not directly improve units or gathering rates; its return is additional Experience toward Home City shipments.

A retroactive Experience conversion

The technology is not limited to purchases made after it finishes: the documented effect also credits eligible technology and shipment history from before the research. Its percentage is based on resources spent on technologies, while the separate shipment reward varies by the age of the shipment. Age advancements are included in the technology-spending effect.

Age changes the value of future shipments

Each eligible Exploration Age shipment contributes 60 Experience, Commerce Age contributes 140, Fortress Age 200 and Industrial Age 320. These rewards stop once the overall benefit reaches 2,000 Experience. The rising amounts make the timing relevant, but the cap means players should consider how much of the reward has already been collected.
