Fish - Salmon
Fish - Salmon is a neutral, fishable Food resource in Age of Empires III. A school contains 500 Food, has 100 hit points and line of sight 9, and can be worked by up to 20 gatherers under the recorded profile. It is not a trainable combat unit.

Role, availability & values
Fishing Boats and other eligible gatherers collect from the school while it remains available. Salmon appear on California, Great Lakes, Northwest Territory, Patagonia, Saguenay and Yucatán; they are freshwater fish on Great Lakes, Northwest Territory and the lake version of Patagonia. On saltwater versions they can coexist with Humpback or Beluga Whales. The listed school size is finite, so boats move on after it is depleted. Map generation determines where a school sits and whether it is exposed to enemy ships.
Matchup & timing
Scout the water before investing in a Dock and boats. A nearby, defensible Salmon school can provide Food without sending Villagers across land, but the boats and fishing site remain vulnerable to naval pressure. Spread boats across available schools when appropriate and move them when a patch is empty or contested. Do not assume Salmon appear on every water map; use the map’s actual fish placement.
Where the species appears
The six listed maps are California, Great Lakes, Northwest Territory, Patagonia, Saguenay and Yucatán. Salmon are freshwater fish on Great Lakes, Northwest Territory and Patagonia’s lake version. On saltwater maps they may share the waters with Humpback or Beluga Whales. These placements help set expectations while scouting, but the generated map should determine the Dock site and the route boats need to travel.
The school is finite and vulnerable
A school’s 500 Food is a gatherable deposit, not an unlimited income source. Up to 20 gatherers can work the recorded school, but concentrating many boats in one exposed area makes them easier to disrupt. Protect the approach, check whether enemy ships can reach the coast and move the boats to another source when the Salmon are gone. Fish schools supplement the land economy; they do not remove the need to manage food after depletion.
