Historical Battles
Historical Battles is a collection of stand-alone scenarios in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition. Each scenario recreates a conflict through its own map, faction, starting force and objectives; the collection does not share one continuous protagonist or campaign economy. Later Definitive Edition releases added further battles, so individual scenarios can belong to different updates or expansions.

Setting & objective
A battle may give the player a developed base, a fixed army, allies, timed goals or optional tasks. The scenario rules define the available units and win conditions, which can differ from ordinary skirmish play. Follow the individual entry for each battle to see its setting, objective and release context.
How to approach it
Before moving the starting army, identify the primary goal, any failure condition and whether an optional objective has a practical reward. Keep the units needed for the main objective together, and do not divert the whole force to a side task unless the mission requires it. Historical Battles are useful for practicing specific tactics under controlled scenario conditions.
Read each battle as its own ruleset
Historical Battles are independent scenarios with their own setting, forces, allies, and objectives rather than one continuous campaign economy. Some begin with an established base or fixed army; others add timed or optional goals. The available units and victory conditions can differ from Skirmish, and the collection expanded across Definitive Edition releases. Open each individual battle entry for its map, objective, and release context.
Twelve standalone scenarios and unlock history
Definitive Edition’s Historical Battles collection contains twelve standalone scenarios set across 1516–1855. They are separate from the story-mode campaigns and do not share a continuous narrative. Early versions required a player to clear battles in sequence; a later update made all scenarios available from the start. Because the collection grew across Definitive Edition updates, the roster, map and rules belong to each individual battle. Use that battle’s page for its starting force and objectives rather than applying a campaign build order.
