Function
Resources invested in a Lombard are returned through its conversion process rather than spent directly on a normal production queue. The building has a limited build count and a free initial period before conversion, so the timing and resource mix affect when its investment pays back.
Placement & timing
Use Lombards when the Italian economy can commit surplus resources and benefit from additional mercenary or outlaw access. Keep enough ordinary income available for workers, age advances and immediate military needs.
Italian resource conversion and mercenary production
The Lombard is an Italian economic building introduced in Knights of the Mediterranean. It costs 100 Wood and 100 Coin, takes 20 seconds to build and can be placed up to five times. The structure has 2,500 hit points, line of sight 12 and a 3.5-by-3.5 footprint. It converts resources over time and trains Outlaws and Mercenaries, linking the Italian economy to units outside the ordinary Barracks roster. Conversion is a delayed return rather than an instant refund, so the player should invest resources that can be spared without interrupting Villager production, age advancement or immediate defense. The building also creates access to specialized units, making it useful when those units counter the opponent or complement Italy’s standard army. Use the Lombard when the economy can support a resource commitment and there is time for its conversion cycle to pay back. Multiple Lombards expand capacity but require more building cost and safe space. Protect them from raids; losing a Lombard during its conversion cycle can disrupt the planned return. Check the active version for exact conversion rates and unit costs.
Resource timing and build limit
Each Lombard commits Wood and Coin to a conversion cycle rather than providing immediate resources. The five-building limit allows Italian players to scale the system, but building all five at once can leave too little resource for units and aging. Add Lombards gradually when the economy has surplus, and keep ordinary income active while the conversion proceeds. The ability to train Outlaws and Mercenaries is a separate military benefit: use the unit list to select a counter or specialist, and do not assume that the conversion alone will fund every recruit. Placement should keep the building close enough to the economy for safety while leaving room for the other Italian production structures. If the match is under attack, delay further Lombards and spend on defense. The building’s 2,500 hit points help it survive some pressure but do not protect its stored plan from a focused raid.
Investing surplus resources
Use Lombards gradually as the economy can spare resources. Keep enough immediate income for Villagers, age advancement and defense while conversion continues, and protect the building from raids.
Italian economic timing
Avoid committing all available resources to Lombards at the same time. A staged investment preserves enough immediate Food, Wood and Coin for workers and defense while conversion proceeds in the background.
Italian resource conversion and mercenary access
The Lombard is an Italian economic building introduced in Knights of the Mediterranean for Definitive Edition. It converts invested resources over time and can train Outlaws and mercenaries, linking the Italian economy to a flexible military roster. A Lombard costs 100 Wood and 100 Coin, is available from the Exploration Age and has a build limit of five. Its conversion process is distinct from spending resources directly on an ordinary queue, so read the displayed conversion rate and timing before investing.
Manage the payback and production limit
Settlers, Architects or Lombard Wagons can construct the building. The recorded profile includes a free initial period before conversion, meaning the delay and resource mix affect when an investment returns. Use Lombards when the economy can commit surplus resources without stopping Villager production, an age-up or immediate military reinforcements. Their Outlaw and mercenary options can fill army gaps, but units still require the listed resources and population. Spread Lombards within a defendable base and keep enough regular income to support the army while waiting for conversion. They are strongest as part of a longer plan, not as a substitute for liquidity during a rush.
