Role, availability & values

The rickshaw has 250 hit points and moves at 4.0 speed. It must reach a legal site and finish the selected structure before Japanese units can use that production. The choice between Barracks and Stable determines the role of the new forward queue.

Matchup & timing

Choose the building that answers the army’s current need and place it where reinforcements can reach the front safely. Scout the destination, escort the rickshaw across exposed ground and protect the completed structure. A forward Stable or Barracks is useful only if the army can keep it operating.

Japanese access and tactical deployment

A Japanese player receives this rickshaw through the Military Rickshaw shipment when Japanese Isolation is selected at the Consulate, or through the Jagiellonian Legacy shipment associated with Torii Gates advancement to the Commerce or Fortress Age. It transforms into a Barracks or Stable without requiring Villagers and saves the ordinary 200 Wood building investment. Construction proceeds at the standard building rate. The resulting structure is a normal production building, so it can be used to queue and upgrade the Japanese infantry or cavalry supported by the chosen building; the rickshaw itself does not supply those troops. This makes it useful for placing production near a planned front, but a forward site can be lost if the army moves away. Its 250 hit points and 20% siege resistance help it survive transit, not a concentrated attack. Decide which queue the army needs before dispatching it.

Japanese building wagon

The Military Rickshaw is a Japanese mobile construction unit that places a Barracks or Stable without the normal building resource cost. It has 250 hit points, speed 4 and 18 line of sight. Its principal function is to bring military production to a chosen location, letting Japan establish the production building needed for the current army composition without assigning a Villager to build it. Once it places the structure, the Rickshaw is consumed and the Barracks or Stable performs its normal production role.

Choose production before placement

Decide whether the army needs infantry production from a Barracks or cavalry production from a Stable before moving the wagon forward. Place it within defensible territory and avoid using the free structure as an excuse to expose the Rickshaw: the wagon has to arrive at the site, and a forward building can be vulnerable after completion. Its free construction value is strongest when it saves resources for units and when the selected building can produce continuously. The Military Rickshaw is distinct from Japanese wagons that place economic or other structures, so check the wagon’s name and available build menu.
