Nilgai

Nilgai is a hunted animal in Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties, with a 400-Food carcass and a recorded limit of eight gatherers. Its original map listing associates it with Deccan and Deccan-style Silk Road maps; its appearance is therefore determined by the selected map rather than by a civilization’s train queue. The animal has 20 hit points, speed 2.0 and line of sight 18.

Role, availability & values

Use Villagers to hunt the animal and gather its remaining Food. Check that the active map includes Nilgai before assigning workers, and keep the group near a safe route or military cover. The eight-gatherer limit describes how many workers can use the carcass efficiently at once; extra Villagers can collect from another source instead of crowding it.

Training & availability

Hunted animal; associated with Deccan and Deccan-style Silk Road in The Asian Dynasties; 400 Food; 20 hit points; up to eight gatherers.

Matchup & timing

Nilgai is a useful Food source when Deccan or a Deccan-style Silk Road layout places it within a defensible walk. Its 400 Food is finite, so scout a replacement Hunt before the carcass is exhausted. Move the workers if the opponent threatens the area or if the route back to the Town Center becomes too exposed.

Map availability matters more than civilization choice

The Asian Dynasties article places Nilgai on Deccan and Deccan-style Silk Road maps. It is neutral wildlife, not a unit produced by an Indian civilization or a bonus guaranteed on every Asian map. Check the selected map and the actual spawn before planning Food around it. When present, the carcass can support an early economy; when absent or already depleted, move workers to another Hunt rather than waiting at an empty site.

Gather the carcass without exposing a large worker group

Eight gatherers can work the animal at once in the recorded profile. A group that reaches the site over a long path may be vulnerable even though the animal itself is not a major military threat. Keep the Explorer or a small army near exposed workers, and use the carcass while the area remains safe. As the Food runs down, send workers to the next source in time to keep Villager and unit production moving.
