When to research
Royal Scots Grey provides an immediate reinforcement: 5 Totenkopf Hussars; Totenkopf Hussars now require 4 hits to charge up their Death Strike ability. Research when this force fills a current army need and can reach the fight in time; reserve population and set a safe gather point rather than starting it as an emergency response. Use the Trading Post or Tambo on a House of Hanover palace for research. Research takes 30 seconds and costs 200 food, 200 coin.
Current effect and earlier version
In the current Definitive Edition data, the research costs 200 Food and 200 Coin, takes 30 seconds, sends five Totenkopf Hussars, and changes their Death Strike charge requirement to four hits. Earlier versions of the technology cost 500 Food and 500 Coin. Before update 13.18214, newly gained Totenkopf Hussars began with Death Strike charged; the current effect instead reduces the hits needed to charge it from eight to four. These are version changes, not simultaneous bonuses.
Using the shipment
Royal Scots Grey is a Commerce Age technology at a Trading Post or Tambo on a House of Hanover palace. Because it combines a unit delivery with a unit-specific ability improvement, time the research for a moment when the five Hussars can arrive together and act as a protected force. Keep them away from concentrated anti-cavalry fire while they build Death Strike charges; the technology improves their ability cycle but does not make them immune to their normal counters.
