Matchup & timing

Tekkousen is a Japanese Fortress Age transport that doubles as a ship-to-ship attacker; unlike the Fuchuan, it does not train banner armies. Its 2,000 hit points and 75% ranged resistance support a crossing, and both its ranged attack and broadside carry a 2× modifier against Ships. The ranged attack is only 0.5× against Artillery, so do not use it as an artillery counter. It costs 500 Wood and 500 Coin and takes 40 seconds at the Asian Dock. Use the 28-range naval attack to help clear enemy ships, then unload the transported force only after an escort can protect the landing.

Armored transport and expansion-era cost

Tekkousen is a Japanese armored transport ship available from the Asian Dock in the Fortress Age. Its profile costs 500 Wood and 500 Coin, takes 40 seconds to train and grants 100 XP; it has 2,000 hit points, 75% ranged resistance, 7.5 speed and 34 line of sight. It can carry land units, making it useful for crossing water or landing troops where a direct land route is unavailable. Its broadside and ranged siege attacks let it contribute against ships and coastal structures, but its primary transport value still depends on surviving the voyage and reaching a safe unloading point. The Exalted Tekkousen upgrade has a clear version change: it costs 1,000 Wood and 1,000 Coin in The Asian Dynasties, but 1,500 of each in Definitive Edition. Account for that later investment before committing to an upgrade path. A Tekkousen is expensive in both major resources, so protect it with supporting ships and avoid sending it alone into concentrated anti-ship fire. Use its transport capacity when the army needs access to the far shore; if no landing or crossing will change the engagement, its cost may be better spent on a broader fleet or land force.

Exalted upgrade by release

The Exalted Tekkousen surcharge differs by edition. The Asian Dynasties lists a 1,000-Wood and 1,000-Coin cost, while the Definitive Edition lists 1,500 Wood and 1,500 Coin. Keep that change separate from the base Fortress Age ship profile when comparing a fleet plan.

Japanese armored transport and fleet limit

A Tekkousen costs 500 Wood and 500 Coin, trains in 40 seconds and has a limit of three. Its Fortress Age profile has 2,000 hit points, 75% ranged resistance, speed 7.5, sight 34 and transport capacity 50. The ordinary ranged attack deals 90 damage at range 28 every two seconds and has a 2× multiplier against Ships; its broadside fires a rapid sequence of six 35-damage shots, also with a Ship bonus, then has a 60-second cooldown. Use the broadside when an enemy ship can be exposed for the full sequence, and do not mistake its short firing burst for a continuously available attack. As a Japanese Dock unit, it combines fleet combat with a substantial landing role. Decide whether the match needs the broadside against enemy ships or a protected transport, then keep an escort and retreat route ready for the cooldown.
