Overview
Maya: Account for the extra starting Villager and population cap, then use the resulting early lead to build a clean economy. Archers are the main strength and can grow into a cost-efficient ranged army.
Opening decision and first timing
The extra starting Villager and lower starting food require careful first assignments and housing. Once the economy settles, cheaper foot Archers can maintain a longer ranged production cycle than a generic civilization. Use the Eagle Scout to identify the opponent’s exposed resources and whether a direct archer attack can reach them.
Composition, counters, and transition
Plumed Archers provide mobility that ordinary foot Archers lack, while Eagles can close on vulnerable ranged units or raid. The resource-duration bonus helps a long game only if the map remains accessible. Screen the archer mass against cavalry and siege, and avoid researching a Castle-based line before the stone, food, and gold needed for replacements are available.
Opening priorities
Account for the extra starting Villager and population cap, then use the resulting early lead to build a clean economy.
Core army
Archers are the main strength and can grow into a cost-efficient ranged army.
Technology & transition
Preserve the archer mass through Castle Age and add siege or infantry to handle buildings and direct counters.
Watch for
There is no cavalry or gunpowder line, so plan protection and a response to siege before the opponent forces the issue.
