Effect & research conditions
Research costs 1,000 Food and 1,000 Wood and takes 30 seconds. Villagers gather 50% faster from mines, Mountain Monasteries, Estates, Coin-producing Rice Paddies, Fields and Haciendas. Hacienda automatic Coin gathering and Fishing Ship gathering from whales each increase by 50%. The effects are source-specific and do not improve Food gathering or fishing from ordinary fish.
Research condition
Available to Asians from the Imperial Age. Research it at Rice Paddy. It requires Rice Exports.
When to research
Research when the economy is established across several of these Coin sources and can keep them operating through the late game. Its large cost is difficult to recover from only one mine or a short whaling window. Check that Rice Exports is complete and compare the broad economic boost with Imperial units and upgrades competing for the same resources.
Coin sources covered
The 50% Villager bonus applies to mines, Mountain Monasteries, Estates, Coin Rice Paddies, Coin Fields and Coin Haciendas. Hacienda automatic Coin production receives its own 50% increase. A Food-mode Paddy or Hacienda does not receive the Coin-side effect.
Whaling is a separate naval effect
Fishing Ships gather Coin from whales 50% faster. This is distinct from the Villager mining and building bonuses and does not describe ordinary fish gathering. The upgrade is most effective where the match has both a substantial land-based Coin economy and persistent whale access.
