Gas Lighting
Gas Lighting is a Commerce Age visibility upgrade that extends the line of sight of buildings. It can reveal more of the approaches around a settlement or defensive position, giving the player additional warning when opponents move nearby. It changes vision only; it does not strengthen attacks or reveal the whole map.

Research condition
Available in the Commerce Age at Church (Ethiopians, Japanese, Europeans except Ottomans and Italians) , Mosque (Hausa and Ottomans) , Meeting House (United States) , Cathedral (Mexicans) , Basilica (Italians). Research time: 15 seconds. Cost: 75 food. Civilization-specific building access can vary.
Research decision
Its value is greatest around buildings placed where early warning changes a decision, such as an exposed economy or a defended approach. If the relevant buildings are far from contested routes, the sight bonus may provide little immediate return compared with military or economic spending.
More building vision, not more combat power
Gas Lighting adds four Line of Sight to buildings. It does not increase attack, hit points or reveal the entire map; its value is earlier information around the structures that receive the bonus. The Commerce Age research costs 75 Food and takes 15 seconds. Depending on the civilization, access is listed at a Church, Mosque, Meeting House, Cathedral or Basilica, so use the correct building for the selected roster.
Place the vision where it can change a response
The extra sight is most useful around an exposed economy, a forward defensive position or an approach where spotting an army sooner gives time to respond. Researching it for buildings far from contested routes may reveal little that matters. Check whether a key structure is already positioned to watch the relevant lane, then compare the small Food cost with the military or economic action that the warning would enable. Vision helps the player react; it does not defend the structure by itself.
