Effect & research conditions

Research it at a Trading Post or Tambo on a House of Oldenburg palace. It costs 300 Food and 300 Wood and takes 30 seconds. The Coin bonus applies while Villagers gather from hunted animals and while Fishing Boats or Fishing Canoes gather from fish. Workers gathering at unrelated Food sources do not receive this bonus.

Research condition

Available from the Exploration Age. Research it at Trading Post or Tambo on a House of Oldenburg palace.

When to research

Consider it when a large share of the economy will keep hunting or fishing after the research completes. It is relevant when coastal fishing or safe herds can remain active alongside unit production, because those workers continue supplying Food and add Coin. If the sources are exhausted, unsafe or about to be replaced by Farms and Mills, the technology has less time to repay its cost.

Which workers qualify

The effect names Villagers gathering from hunted animals and Fishing Boats or Fishing Canoes gathering Food from fish. The extra Coin is automatic and calculated from the Food gathering rate; it does not apply to every worker collecting Food. Preserve access to eligible herds or fishing grounds if this technology is part of the economic plan.

A source-dependent investment

The 300 Food and 300 Wood cost is paid up front, while the bonus accumulates only during eligible gathering. Scout nearby herds and fishing grounds before researching, then protect the routes workers use to reach them. On a map where fishing is contested or local hunts are nearly depleted, compare the remaining work time with other ways to spend those resources.
