Master the Basics
Master the Basics is an Age of Empires III scenario in Tutorial (scenario 1). The player commands British.

Scenario setting & objectives
The required goals are Select the Explorer; Move the Explorer to the flag; Select the Musketeers; Move the Musketeers to the flag; Select the Explorer and the Musketeers; Move the Explorer and the Musketeers to the next flag; Scroll the view until you see the next flag; Move everyone to the next flag; Gather Wood from trees; Send a Settler from the Home City; Advance to the Commerce Age; Build a Barracks; Train five additional Musketeers; Defeat the Spanish Cavalry.
Mission approach
Complete required construction early enough to establish the base or route, then defend the workers and new position. Scout the named destination and keep the required hero or escort force safe on the route; clear defenders before moving the mission-critical unit into range. Scout the target and its approach, then preserve enough of the starting army to finish the required assault. Keep Villager production and resource gathering aligned with the stated threshold; assign workers to the nearest safe source and avoid idle time. Reserve the required Age-up resources while keeping enough workers and defenses to meet the mission’s other goals.
Tutorial sequence and combat lesson
This first tutorial scenario is a British lesson that begins in the Exploration Age with an Explorer and no starting resources. It teaches selecting and moving the Explorer, then selecting Musketeers alongside the hero and following successive flags. The player is asked to move the camera to locate the next marker, gather Wood, request a Settler from the Home City, advance to the Commerce Age, build a Barracks and train five additional Musketeers. Four Spanish Hussars attack after the new Musketeers are trained; defeating them completes the final combat objective. The tutorial therefore links interface actions to an actual opening: exploration gives map vision, Villagers collect a needed resource, a Home City shipment adds economy, and the Barracks supplies the force required for the scripted attack. Keep the Explorer and starting troops together for the movement lessons, then shift workers to the resource the objective requires instead of spending it on optional structures.
Starting force and objective trigger
The tutorial scenario uses the British faction, shown in the mission as English Colonists. The player starts with an Explorer and receives Musketeers, Settlers and resources as the lesson advances. A Caravel is present near the shore under the ally’s control, but the objectives are focused on land movement and establishing the colony. The lesson’s final Spanish attack is scripted to follow the training of five additional Musketeers; the player does not need to search for a roaming enemy force before completing the economy and Barracks steps. Once the Hussars attack, keep the new Musketeers together and let their ranged fire defeat the cavalry instead of sending individual units forward. This sequence demonstrates both Home City shipments and the value of training a complete group before the trigger.
