Effect & research conditions

Available to Indians and Japanese from the Imperial Age. Research it at Consulate. Effect: Delivers 11 Legion Dragoons and 4 Horse Artillery. Research takes 90 seconds.

Research condition

Indians or Japanese; Portuguese alliance at the Consulate; Imperial Age; 2,300 Export; 90-second delivery time.

When to research

Queue it before the planned battle because the 90-second delivery is not an instant emergency response. Legion Dragoons can screen the four Horse Artillery from Heavy Cavalry, while the guns punish Infantry. Add Heavy Cavalry or other protection against Culverins and Skirmishers, which threaten the artillery-and-Dragoon combination.

Consulate force with two battlefield roles

The Imperial Age Consulate research supplies eleven Legion Dragoons and four Horse Artillery to Indians or Japanese. The ranged cavalry can respond to mobile threats while the artillery provides ranged pressure and siege. Keep the guns protected as the Dragoons screen them, and account for the long arrival time before depending on the force to stop an attack.

Export cost and edition difference

The Portuguese alliance is a prerequisite: reaching the Imperial Age alone does not unlock the brigade. In The Asian Dynasties, the shipment cost 2,400 Export and the cavalry were called Jinetes; Definitive Edition reduced the cost to 2,300 and renamed the units Legion Dragoons. The entire group arrives as a Consulate technology, so it cannot be replenished through an ordinary Consulate unit queue. Preserve the delivered force and keep population space available. The 90-second research window also means it should be ordered in preparation for a push or defense, not after an enemy army has already reached the Town Center.
