Great White Shark

The Great White Shark is a water-bound Treasure guardian in Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties. With 220 hit points, 50% ranged resistance and a 75-damage hand attack every 1.5 seconds, it is one of the stronger guardians and can heavily damage an early exploration vessel. A single shark may guard a Treasure, but pairs are more common. Its reach is limited to water, which restricts where it can threaten units.

Role, availability & values

Scout the water Treasure before sending an Explorer or ship near it. The shark’s ranged resistance makes ranged attacks less effective than their nominal damage suggests, so bring enough support and avoid allowing a lightly protected exploration vessel to remain in its attack range. Check whether the camp has one guardian or a pair, clear the water around the Treasure, then claim the reward with an eligible unit.

Training & availability

Treasure guardian; 220 hit points; 8.5 movement speed; 50% ranged resistance; 75 hand attack damage.

Matchup & timing

Treat a shark camp as a high-risk Treasure rather than a routine early pickup. Take it when the reward justifies the required naval or hero support and the surrounding water can be secured. If the Explorer is already damaged or the boat is needed elsewhere, postpone the fight; an early vessel can be destroyed quickly if it is sent in carelessly.

A strong guardian with water-limited reach

The Great White Shark can severely damage early exploration vessels and may destroy one if it is left exposed. Treasure camps can contain one shark, though a pair is more common. Its water-only reach limits its ability to threaten land units, so the danger is concentrated on Heroes or ships entering the guarded water. Scout the guardian count and approach with support before trying to claim the reward.
