Kanya Horseman

The Kanya Horseman is Haudenosaunee heavy cavalry that combines raiding speed with strong anti-artillery damage. Its Food-and-Wood cost suits the Haudenosaunee early economy, while its later production competes with other Wood-intensive plans.

Role & counters

Kanya Horsemen are trained from the Commerce Age and cost 100 Food and 75 Wood for two population. They are faster and more resistant to ranged attacks than a Hussar, but have somewhat less health and melee damage. Their charged attack deals a strong multiplier against Artillery.

When to field it

Use them to raid exposed Settlers, chase ranged units or remove unguarded cannon. Avoid running them into anti-cavalry infantry; in later Ages, check that the Wood cost still fits the rest of the army.

Haudenosaunee cavalry statistics and anti-artillery role

The Kanya Horseman is the standard Commerce Age heavy cavalry of the Haudenosaunee. It trains at a Corral or Fort for 100 Food and 75 Wood, takes 37 seconds and uses two population. Its current profile is 285 hit points, 30% ranged resistance, speed 6.75 and line of sight 15. The regular hand attack deals 27 damage every 1.5 seconds; the siege attack deals 18 damage at range six every three seconds and has a 1.75 multiplier against Artillery. Trample deals 23 damage in an area of three every two seconds. The unit is designed to reach cannon quickly, raid exposed targets and threaten light infantry. Kanya Horsemen cost Wood instead of Coin. This can make early production easier for the Haudenosaunee, whose early army also uses Food and Wood, but later it can strain the economy because Wood supports buildings, upgrades and other units. Plan the number of Kanya around the available wood income. Haudenosaunee Woodworking increases villager Wood gathering by 60%, making it a relevant card for a sustained cavalry plan, though the Home City deck still has to balance military and economic shipments. Compared with a Hussar, the Kanya has somewhat lower hit points and attack but stronger ranged resistance. That protection helps it approach ranged fire, yet it remains vulnerable to Heavy Infantry, Light Ranged Cavalry and ranged Shock Troops. Its strongest counter role is against Artillery and skirmisher-type light infantry. Use speed to flank a cannon position or threaten an exposed line, then withdraw before anti-cavalry infantry can surround it. The Haudenosaunee War Chief’s aura can improve hit points and help the cavalry stay in the fight. Upgrade progression is Elite in the Fortress Age for 200 Wood and 100 Coin, Champion in the Industrial Age for 400 Wood and 200 Coin after Elite, and Legendary in the Imperial Age for 1,500 Food and 1,500 Coin after Champion. The first two upgrades each grant 25% hit points and damage; Legendary adds 50%. The War Ceremony and War Chief aura can further improve the army, so upgrades scale strongly when the player has time and resources to invest. Use Kanya in a combined force rather than as a lone cavalry mass. They can protect ranged infantry from enemy skirmishers and strike Artillery, while other Haudenosaunee units address heavy infantry. If the opponent builds counter cavalry, avoid a direct charge and use the Kanya to threaten the opposite flank. The two-population cost means unnecessary losses reduce the army quickly; preserve the unit for targets that justify its resource cost.

Manage the Wood cost as the game progresses

The Kanya’s Wood price is an advantage in the early Haudenosaunee economy, but a constraint later when housing, upgrades and other units compete for the same resource. A large Kanya queue can delay buildings or leave too little Wood for the next age. Use them in limited groups to counter artillery and screen ranged troops, then add units with different resource costs if the battlefield does not call for more cavalry. Haudenosaunee Woodworking can help sustain production, but dedicating a card to faster gathering has an opportunity cost in the Home City deck.

Break through to artillery, then disengage

The 1.75 artillery multiplier makes the Kanya a threat to exposed guns, but its 285 hit points do not make it invulnerable. Enter from a flank, focus the cannon and pull back before Heavy Infantry surrounds the cavalry. Against ranged infantry, use the Kanya’s 30% ranged resistance to cross some fire, but do not trade repeatedly into anti-cavalry units.

A cavalry screen for ranged units

Kanya Horsemen can patrol the edge of a formation and intercept units trying to reach Haudenosaunee ranged infantry. Keep the cavalry close enough to respond, then return it to the screen after an artillery raid rather than leaving it deep behind enemy lines.

Build the cavalry group around the matchup

A small Kanya group can threaten cannon without consuming the resources required for a full cavalry army. Add units only when the opponent’s Artillery or Light Infantry justifies the cost, and keep Wood available for the Haudenosaunee economy. If the enemy switches to heavy infantry, withdraw the Kanya and let ranged units handle that line. Their two population and Food-plus-Wood price make unnecessary losses costly, especially after the early ages.

Use the speed bonus to cover a flank

After a charge, return the Kanya to the firing line so it can answer another artillery approach instead of risking a counterattack.

Haudenosaunee heavy cavalry for raids and artillery

The Kanya Horseman is the standard Heavy Cavalry unit of the Haudenosaunee. It is effective against artillery and Skirmishers and can raid exposed targets. Compared with the Hussar, it has slightly lower hit points and damage but greater armor; this can make it more durable against ranged fire despite the lower raw health. Use its speed to threaten guns and isolated ranged infantry, then retreat before anti-Cavalry units surround it.

Protect Kanya Horsemen from their counters

Kanya Horsemen remain vulnerable to Heavy Infantry and dedicated anti-Cavalry units. Keep them with ranged support that can clear those counters, and avoid charging directly into a prepared line. Their role is mobility and target access, not holding a static front. Check the Haudenosaunee age upgrades and Home City Cards before comparing a Kanya group to a Hussar from another faction.
