Role, availability & values
Production is available through Corral or Fort. It has 205 hit points. It moves at 6.75 speed and uses 2 population. Training costs 120 Food and 90 Coin; it takes 42 seconds to train. Attack profile: Hand attack deals 11 damage. Ranged attack deals 13 damage. Siege attack deals 8 damage. Hand attack bonuses: 6.0× against Artillery, 3.0× against Heavy infantry, 3.0× against Heavy cavalry, and 2.0× against Hand shock trooper. Ranged attack bonuses: 6.0× against Artillery, 6.0× against Ship, 3.0× against Heavy infantry, 3.0× against Heavy cavalry, 2.0× against Hand shock trooper, and 0.5× against Villager. Siege attack bonuses: 1.5× against Shrine, 16 and 0.5× against AbstractWall.
Matchup & timing
Hand attack is especially effective against Artillery (6×), Heavy infantry (3×), Heavy cavalry (3×), Hand shock trooper (2×). Ranged attack is especially effective against Artillery (6×), Ship (6×), Heavy infantry (3×), Heavy cavalry (3×), Hand shock trooper (2×). Siege attack is especially effective against Shrine, 16 (1.5×). Its reduced multipliers against Villager (0.5×), AbstractWall (0.5×) make it less suitable for those targets. Use ranged fire to focus Artillery, Ship, Heavy infantry, Heavy cavalry, and Hand shock trooper before they can close; hold the melee attack for Artillery, Heavy infantry, Heavy cavalry, and Hand shock trooper when they enter contact; reserve the siege attack for Shrine, 16. Keep a frontline between this unit and threats that can reach it safely.
Lakota ranged cavalry counter
The Rifle Rider is a Fortress Age Lakota heavy-cavalry unit available from a Corral or Fort. It costs 120 Food and 90 Coin, trains in 42 seconds and uses two population. The unit has 205 hit points, 30% hand resistance, speed 6.75 and line of sight 15. Its ranged attack deals 13 damage at range 12 every 1.5 seconds, with 6× damage against Artillery and Ships, 3× against Heavy Infantry and Heavy Cavalry, and 2× against Hand Shock troops. Damage against Villagers is reduced to 0.5×. The hand attack deals 11 damage and has strong multipliers against Artillery, Heavy Infantry, Heavy Cavalry and Shock troops. These bonuses give the Rifle Rider a broad specialist role against expensive military units, especially artillery. It is mobile enough to flank and withdraw, but it remains cavalry and can be countered by anti-cavalry units. Use speed to reach the priority target, focus fire and pull back before the enemy can trap the group.
Siege targets and safe engagement
The Rifle Rider’s eight-damage siege attack can affect Shrines and defensive walls, but its main battlefield purpose is countering artillery, ships and heavy units. Do not send it to raid Villagers: its ranged attack has a 0.5× modifier against them, so other Lakota units are a better worker threat. A Fort can provide a forward source of reinforcement, while the Corral is the standard production building; protect whichever site supports the push. Two population and a combined Food-and-Coin cost make each Rider an investment, but the 1.5-second ranged interval lets a group focus a target quickly. Keep them near infantry that can screen against enemy Pikemen or other anti-cavalry troops, and avoid a direct frontal attack into a prepared formation. The 6× Artillery bonus is particularly useful when a gun line blocks the Lakota army’s approach: approach from a flank, remove the artillery, then retreat behind the screen. Check the exact card and upgrade effects for the current version before applying a fully upgraded damage value.
Rotate attacks against high-value targets
Rifle Riders can use a 13-damage ranged attack at range 12 every 1.5 seconds, then switch to an 11-damage hand attack if a target reaches melee. Their multipliers identify the priority classes: Artillery receives 6×, Heavy Infantry and Heavy Cavalry 3×, and Hand Shock troops 2×. A group can therefore support the Lakota army against several expensive threats, but the best target depends on the current battle. Use ranged fire on artillery or ships from a flank, and do not let the enemy’s anti-cavalry units pin the Riders while they switch modes. Their fast movement allows them to disengage, so retreat before the frontline collapses.
Preserve the two-population investment
Each Rifle Rider costs 120 Food and 90 Coin, uses two population and takes 42 seconds to train. Losing a group removes both a valuable counter and a large share of the army cap. Use the Corral or Fort as a safe reinforcement point and keep a route back to the Lakota force. The eight-damage siege attack can pressure Shrines and walls, but a 0.5× modifier against walls and its low base value make it a secondary function. Keep the Riders focused on Artillery, ships or heavy military units and use other Lakota units for worker raids. A broad counter profile does not make the unit invulnerable: protect it from dedicated anti-cavalry and avoid attacking through prepared infantry.
Use mobility without overextending
A speed of 6.75 makes the Rider quick enough to flank, but its two-population cost and 205 hit points still reward a screened retreat. Do not pursue past the infantry support that keeps anti-cavalry away.
Use the siege profile as a secondary tool
The Rider’s 8-damage siege attack can chip at an exposed Shrine or wall, but its stronger role is removing Artillery and heavy units. Return to the army after a brief siege action rather than staying near defenders.
Lakota ranged Cavalry against Heavy Infantry
The Rifle Rider is a major Lakota unit and fills a role similar to a Dragoon, but it is particularly effective against Heavy Infantry. It costs more, moves more slowly and deals less damage per shot than a Dragoon in the documented comparison, but its 1.5-second rate of fire lets it fire twice as often. That cadence can make it effective at sustained pressure against infantry when kept at range.
Use the firing rate without getting pinned
Rifle Riders have a specialized role and should not be treated as a faster Dragoon. Keep them moving around Heavy Infantry, use their range to fire repeatedly and withdraw when light infantry or anti-Cavalry units close in. Their slower movement makes it harder to escape than with some ranged Cavalry, so scout the route before engaging. Pair them with a durable front line and use other units to handle artillery or buildings.
