Effect & research conditions
Research costs 175 Wood and 175 Coin and takes 10 seconds. Villagers gather 5% faster from Mills, Farms, Food-producing Rice Paddies, Fields and Haciendas. Fishing Ships gather 5% faster from fish and whales, and Hacienda automatic Food gathering rises by 5%. These are source-specific bonuses; they do not improve Coin gathering or unrelated work.
Research condition
Available from the Exploration Age. Research it at Trading Post or Tambo on an Aztec settlement.
When to research
Research when the economy uses several eligible sources, such as land farming alongside fishing or Hacienda Food production. The modest 5% improvement applies in multiple places, so it is easier to benefit from than a single-source upgrade. If workers are gathering mainly from hunts or other unaffected sources, wait until the relevant economy is active.
Land and naval Food gathering
The Villager bonus covers Mills, Farms, Food-producing Rice Paddies, Fields and Haciendas. Fishing Ships separately gather from fish and whales 5% faster. Hacienda automatic Food production also receives 5%. A Rice Paddy or Hacienda assigned to Coin does not receive the Food-side improvement.
A low-cost multi-source upgrade
At 175 Wood and 175 Coin for ten seconds of research, Chinampa can support both land and naval economies. Its value grows when several eligible sources remain in use. Do not count Food gathering from hunting or other omitted sources toward the return.
