Green Corn Ceremony

Green Corn Ceremony is a Fortress Age follow-up in a food-gathering technology line. It improves Villager Food collection from the listed renewable sources and can also increase a Hacienda’s automatic Food production, extending the value of the earlier Farm research.

Effect

Research it at a Farm after Harvest Ceremony. The upgrade takes 30 seconds and costs 350 Wood and 175 Coin. It raises the listed Food gathering rates by 20%, with a matching 20% increase to Hacienda Food auto-gather. Its prerequisite makes it a later economic investment rather than an opening upgrade.

Research condition

Available in the Fortress Age at Farm; requires Harvest Ceremony. Research time: 30 seconds. Cost: 350 wood, 175 coin. Civilization-specific building access can vary.

Research decision

Research it when workers are using the affected sources and the match will continue long enough for the improvement to return its cost. The large Wood price competes with production and defenses, so do not continue the line automatically if the economy has shifted to hunting, fishing or another resource.

The full list of affected Food sources

Green Corn Ceremony improves Villager gathering from hunted animals, Berry Bushes, Cherry Orchards, Mills, Farms, Food on Rice Paddies, Food Fields and Haciendas by 20%. Hacienda automatic Food production receives the matching 20% increase. It does not improve Wood or Coin collection at those buildings, and the bonus does not apply to an unrelated resource merely because it is gathered at the same site.

A three-step Farm research line

Native American civilizations can research this Fortress Age upgrade at a Farm after Harvest Ceremony. It costs 350 Wood and 175 Coin and takes 30 seconds. Large Scale Gathering is the next listed step in the Imperial Age, so the player can weigh whether to continue the line or spend on immediate army production. The Wood cost is substantial; the research has its best return when the affected Food sources are already being used and the match will last long enough to benefit from faster gathering.
