Town Watch

Town Watch is a Commerce Age scouting improvement for military and economic units. Its extra line of sight can help workers notice danger sooner and let an army see farther while it moves, improving awareness around the area those units occupy. It does not increase attack range or damage.

Effect

Research takes 10 seconds and costs 150 Food. The recorded effect adds 3 line of sight to Military and economic units. Depending on civilization, it is researched at a Church, Mosque, Meeting House, Cathedral or Basilica; building availability differs among rosters.

Research condition

Available in the Commerce Age at Church (Ethiopians, Japanese, Europeans except Ottomans and Italians) , Mosque (Hausa and Ottomans) , Meeting House (United States) , Cathedral (Mexicans) , Basilica (Italians). Research time: 10 seconds. Cost: 150 food. Civilization-specific building access can vary.

Research decision

The upgrade is useful when scouting and warning time matter across several units, especially while gathering away from the Town Center or approaching an uncertain route. It cannot replace active scouting: the bonus only helps units see farther from their own positions.

Line of sight is warning time

Town Watch costs 150 Food and takes ten seconds to research, adding three line of sight to military and economic units. It can reveal raiders earlier around dispersed workers or improve an army’s awareness while it advances, but it does not increase attack range or damage. The research site varies by civilization, including Church, Mosque, Meeting House, Cathedral, or Basilica. Use it when many units can benefit and check which building is available in the selected roster.
