Matchup & timing
Ranged attack is especially effective against Heavy cavalry (2×), Hand shock trooper (1.6×), Light ranged cavalry (1.25×), Ranged shock trooper (1.25×). Its reduced multipliers against Rifle Rider, 16 (0.8×), Mounted Granadero, 16 (0.8×), Infantry (0.5×) make it less suitable for those targets. Use ranged fire to focus Heavy cavalry, Hand shock trooper, Light ranged cavalry, and Ranged shock trooper before they can close. Keep a frontline between this unit and threats that can reach it safely.
Inca and Peruvian ranged snare unit
Bolas Warrior is a Fortress Age ranged infantry unit for the Incas and Peruvians, available through a Kallanka, Stronghold, Fort or American Citadel. It costs 75 Food and 45 Coin, occupies one population and trains in 30 seconds. The unit has 140 hit points, 20% ranged resistance, speed 4.0 and line of sight 14. Both its hand and ranged attacks deal 15 base damage; the ranged attack reaches 12 and fires every three seconds. Its projectile snares the target, slowing movement and helping the army maintain contact. The ranged profile has bonuses against Heavy Cavalry, Hand shock troopers, Light ranged cavalry and Ranged shock troops, with reduced damage against Infantry and certain mounted units. This broad but uneven profile makes Bolas Warrior a control and matchup unit rather than a generic damage dealer. Use the snare to hold a priority target for follow-up attacks, and keep the unit behind a screen because its 140 hit points are modest. Its 19-damage siege attack can help after the field force is handled. The 75/45 resource cost and Fortress Age timing mean it competes with other specialized units; produce it when slowing the opponent’s cavalry or shock force creates a clear advantage. Check the individual stat rows for exact multipliers and the current ruleset.
Snare and focus fire
The ranged snare gives the Inca or Peruvian army more time to focus a target and can make it harder for cavalry or shock units to disengage. Use the 12-range shot from behind the frontline, then let allied units exploit the slowed target. The 15-damage attack has several matchup modifiers, so do not treat its base value as the damage against every class. Its 20% ranged resistance helps against return fire, but 140 hit points still leave it vulnerable if focused. Keep the Kallanka or other production source safe so replacements can arrive, and preserve Coin for the 45-Coin unit cost.
Target-specific slow
The ranged attack snares its target, helping allied units focus fire. Its bonuses are concentrated against mounted and shock classes, while Infantry receives only half damage; choose targets by tag.
Use snare to hold priority targets
A snared enemy is easier for allied units to focus. Bolas Warriors are most valuable when the target belongs to one of their boosted classes; Infantry takes reduced damage and should be handled by another unit.
Mixed army use
Bolas Warriors work best alongside units that can exploit the snare and answer Infantry, their reduced-damage target. Keep them behind durable troops, focus their ranged fire on a priority mounted or shock unit and avoid exposing the group to a direct melee. The snare helps control the fight, but does not guarantee a win if the target is protected by counters.
Snare and mounted-unit control
The Bolas Warrior is Inca Heavy infantry available from the Fortress Age, with Peru also able to field it after the Revolution. Its 15-damage ranged attack snares the target and carries bonuses against Heavy cavalry, Hand shock troopers, Light ranged cavalry and Ranged shock troopers. The slow effect can help the rest of the army catch a mobile unit, making focus fire more effective. At four speed and 140 hit points, however, Bolas Warriors are not fast pursuers and need protection as they approach. Use the snare to control a target, then let allied units deliver the sustained damage.
Production and population planning
Kallankas, Strongholds, Forts and American Citadels provide the listed access. A Bolas Warrior costs 75 Food and 45 Coin, uses one population and takes 30 seconds to train. Its 19-damage siege attack is a secondary contribution against buildings; the unit’s primary value is slowing and damaging mounted threats. Pair it with ranged or anti-infantry support and avoid exposing it to a force that can attack from beyond its 2–12 range. The Inca or Peruvian production route depends on the chosen nation and release, so confirm access before planning a continuous queue.
Definitive Edition redesign and current counters
The Bolas Warrior’s current Inca profile is substantially different from its older versions. It now costs 75 Food and 45 Coin, trains in 30 seconds, has 140 hit points and uses one population. Before update 47581 it cost 35 Food and 65 Coin, took 35 seconds, had 175 hit points, used two population and moved at 4.25 rather than 4.0. That update also raised its hand damage from 10 to 15 and changed its ranged attack from 18 to 15 damage; the current ranged attack snares its target. The present ranged attack has a 2.0× bonus against Heavy Cavalry, 1.6× against Hand Shock Troops and 1.25× against Ranged Shock Troopers. Its modifiers against Shock Troops and Infantry have also shifted over time, so current counter values should not be copied from pre-47581 references. Use the Bolas Warrior to slow and damage valuable cavalry or ranged shock units while the rest of the army closes; it is not a replacement for a high-damage siege unit.
