Argentina’s mobile area-damage unit

The Mounted Granadero is an outlaw cavalry unit associated with the Argentina revolution in Definitive Edition. The Granaderos Home City Card unlocks its training from a Stable, Tavern, Lombard, Fort or Galleon. Argentina can also receive it in random outlaw shipments, while Lakota and Maya have their own Outlaw Band or Bandit Gang routes. The normal Argentina unit costs 120 Food and 50 Coin, trains in 30 seconds, occupies two population and has 250 hit points, 20% ranged resistance, speed 6.5 and line of sight 15. These values describe a mobile support attacker rather than a durable heavy cavalry unit. Its grenade attack deals 16 damage at range 2–12 every three seconds in an area of 2. It deals reduced damage to Cavalry, Shock Troops, Artillery and Villagers, with the lowest multipliers against Artillery and Villagers. The short attack cycle and area effect make it useful against grouped infantry, while its lower multipliers discourage using it to counter cavalry or attack artillery directly. A separate 32-damage siege attack at range 10 every three seconds provides meaningful building pressure. The unit therefore combines movement with splash damage and siege, but it still needs protection from the light ranged units that are listed as counters. Compared with a Grenadier, a Mounted Granadero costs more Food, has more hit points and speed, and deals less siege damage. It does not receive the Grenade Launchers Home City Card effect that benefits Grenadiers, but it can benefit from Folk Heroes where that route applies. Its ranged area damage is not a reason to charge alone into an enemy line: use the horse’s mobility to choose a firing angle, spread out when enemy artillery is present, and retreat if Light Infantry, Light Ranged Cavalry or ranged Shock Troops can focus it. The two-population cost makes a small force manageable, but massing them requires a plan to preserve them. Argentina’s revolution timing determines when the unit can be used, and the Granaderos card is a necessary production unlock. The unit also upgrades in later ages when Wild West is researched; revolting into Argentina with Folk Heroes can provide its revolution-specific improvement. The listed age bonuses are +30% hit points and damage in the Industrial Age, +50% in the Imperial Age, and +30% for the revolution route when its conditions are met. Those bonuses improve the force after it exists but do not replace the card or solve the weak matchups. Use Mounted Granaderos to pressure infantry formations and buildings after a frontline has fixed the opponent in place. Their high-speed flanking can punish an army that leaves a route open, and the long siege range lets them attack structures without approaching as closely as many infantry. Keep a screen against specialized infantry counters and avoid spending them on Villagers or artillery, where their attack multipliers are poor. Current Definitive Edition values include 120 Food, 50 Coin, two population, 16 grenade damage in area 2 and 32 siege damage; older patches changed the resource mix, resistance, range and area. Check the current profile when following older revolution guides.

Use mobility without misreading the target bonuses

The grenade attack’s area makes Mounted Granaderos useful against clustered infantry, but its 0.5 multipliers against Cavalry and Shock Troops and 0.25 against Artillery and Villagers are substantial penalties. It should not be treated as a general-purpose cavalry counter or a worker raider. Use the 6.5 speed to move to a better angle, then attack an infantry group or exposed building; a 32-point siege attack at range 10 adds pressure while keeping some distance. The unit’s ranged resistance is only 20%, so concentrated fire and counters can remove it quickly. Argentina’s card unlock matters because the revolution alone does not guarantee production from every structure. Include the Granaderos shipment in the plan, preserve Coin for replacement units and stop production when enemy Light Infantry can focus the mounted line.

Replace losses selectively

A mounted group that has taken focused fire should retreat before its 20% ranged resistance is exhausted. Because the unit occupies two population and comes from a revolution card, rebuilding a lost force can disrupt the rest of Argentina’s army. Keep the Granaderos in reserve until their anti-infantry area damage or building siege will affect the fight.

Mobile Grenadier with area damage

The Mounted Granadero combines Cavalry mobility with the Grenadier’s area-of-effect attack. It can reposition to attack grouped units or exposed buildings, and compared with ordinary Grenadiers it has more hit points and higher speed in the documented profile. Its attack is most valuable when the blast can hit several targets or disrupt a formation.

A costly siege unit that still needs a screen

Mounted Granaderos are more expensive than Grenadiers and remain vulnerable to anti-Cavalry units and concentrated fire. Use their mobility to reach a safe firing angle, but avoid charging them into a prepared infantry line. Keep a front line nearby and reserve population for units that can protect the Granaderos. Their siege role supplements dedicated artillery; it does not make them a safe replacement for Mortars.

Heavy-cavalry reclassification and area attack

Mounted Granadero is a Mexican mounted Grenade Trooper whose classification changed in update 47581: it is now Heavy Cavalry and Ranged Heavy Cavalry, while earlier profiles classified it as Light Ranged Cavalry. Its current cost is 120 Food, ranged resistance 20% and population two. The Food cost was 150 before patch 15.59076, and ranged resistance was 30% in that patch-era profile, 40% before update 61213 and 50% before update 38254. It now uses two population, compared with one before update 61213, and its training and kill Experience are 30 rather than 24. Its ranged attack reaches 12, down from 14 before update 61213, and the area of effect is 2, compared with 2.5 before patch 15.59076 and 3 before update 61213. Its grenade splash makes target grouping relevant, but its smaller current area and lower resistance than old guides describe should inform positioning.
