Role, availability & values
It has 250 hit points and 10% ranged resistance. It moves at 4.5 speed. Attack profile: Healing: range 12. Ranged attack: 10 damage at range 16; every 3.0 seconds. Siege attack: 10 damage at range 6; every 3.0 seconds. Hand attack: 5 damage; every 1.5 seconds. Special ability or role: Claims treasures; Builds Trading Posts and the Cathedral; Regeneration. If reduced to zero hit points, it collapses rather than dying; after regenerating 100 hit points, a friendly unit or building nearby can revive it.
Matchup & timing
Use El Padre as a Mexican campaign hero who can heal, claim Treasures and build Trading Posts or the Cathedral, not as a standard production unit. His 250 hit points make repeated guardian fights risky; use Pacify or Saber Strike when their scenario conditions fit, then recover before the next objective. Keep him with the mission force so his construction and support contribute.
Hero profile in Grito de Dolores
El Padre is the hero unit representing Miguel Hidalgo in the Grito de Dolores Historical Battle in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition. He has 250 hit points, 10% ranged resistance, speed 4.5 and line of sight 18. His ranged attack deals 10 damage at range 16 every three seconds, with a three-times bonus against Treasure guardians, half damage against Heroes and one-quarter damage against Villagers. He heals at ten hit points per second within range 12 and can build Trading Posts and the Cathedral. His role combines exploration, support and mission-specific abilities rather than ordinary frontline damage.
Pacify and treasure control
Pacify targets a Treasure guardian and affects other guardians in a radius of five. For 20 seconds it reduces their movement speed by 75% while doubling their rate of fire, so the ability is control rather than a simple damage reduction. It has a 60-second cooldown. The strange rate-of-fire increase means the player should still clear the guardians quickly and keep El Padre safe; slowed enemies can continue attacking. With Guadalupanos, Pacify can also target enemy military units, changing it from a treasure-control tool into battlefield disruption. Use that version on a dangerous group when allied troops are ready to exploit the opening.
Saber Strike and revival
In the Industrial Age, Saber Strike can activate automatically when El Padre attacks. It has a 90-second cooldown, deals eight hand damage with a four-times bonus against Treasure guardians, and affects a radius of three; Villagers take only one-quarter damage. Do not confuse this special strike with his ordinary ranged attack. El Padre also collapses rather than dying at zero hit points. If a friendly unit or building is nearby, he can revive after regenerating at least 100 hit points. Withdraw the fallen hero to a safe position and prevent enemies from finishing him.
Keep the hero working with the army
Use El Padre to scout and heal between fights, then keep him behind Insurgentes or other combat units when approaching Spanish defenses. His range 16 lets him contribute without standing in melee, while the Treasure guardian multiplier makes him useful when clearing mission rewards. The hero’s low speed limits pursuit, so avoid sending him ahead of the army for a chase. If the mission gives access to Guadalupanos, save Pacify for a threatening formation and coordinate it with the main force instead of activating it before allies can reach the target.
Distinguish the hero from Hidalgo the leader
El Padre is a scenario unit in the Definitive Edition Historical Battle. Miguel Hidalgo is also a Mexican AI personality and a revolutionary leader choice in The WarChiefs and The Asian Dynasties, but those roles use different rules. The older revolution shipment delivers outlaw troops, whereas El Padre’s Pacify, healing and revival belong to the Grito de Dolores hero. Keep these appearances separate when comparing unit statistics or planning a revolution.
Clearing guardians safely
Pacify can make a dangerous treasure fight easier to control, but the ability slows guardians while doubling their rate of fire. Use the 75% movement reduction to limit how quickly they surround El Padre, then let Insurgentes or other units finish the target during the 20-second window. The five-radius effect can catch several nearby guards, so select a central target when the group is clustered. Keep the hero outside the group’s attack range where possible and retreat before the 60-second cooldown leaves him without the control option.
Healing and construction between fights
Ten hit points per second at range 12 makes El Padre a meaningful field healer. After clearing a position, leave damaged soldiers near him while the army prepares its next move. His ability to build Trading Posts and the Cathedral also supports scenario progress, but construction takes him away from scouting and healing. Choose a safe site and protect the hero until the building is complete. His 18 line of sight is useful for finding a route or treasure, but speed 4.5 makes him slower than dedicated Cavalry, so do not scout far ahead alone.
Industrial Age timing
Saber Strike is available in the Industrial Age and activates automatically during an attack, with a 90-second cooldown. Since the blow affects a radius of three, El Padre can add area damage when the force reaches a clustered group. Do not depend on it being available in each engagement; the long cooldown rewards saving the hero through an extended mission. The strike’s four-times Treasure guardian multiplier makes it particularly relevant if a treasure objective remains, while its quarter damage against Villagers is not a reliable economic raid.
Protect the hero between abilities
El Padre’s ranged resistance is only 10%, and his movement speed is 4.5. Keep him out of focused fire while Pacify and Saber Strike are on cooldown. Let the army take the first contact, then use his range and healing to support the units that remain.
Keep El Padre near the mission force
His slower 4.5 speed makes it safer to move with the main force than to chase enemies alone. Preserve the healer so the Insurgentes can recover between the town and the Spanish defenses.
Distinct from the older revolution
The ten Bandit Gunslingers and ten Bandit Riders belong to Miguel Hidalgo’s older Portuguese or Spanish revolution reward. El Padre’s healing and abilities are exclusive to the Definitive Edition Historical Battle.
Mexican hero, builder and religious support
El Padre is a unique Mexican hero who explores, fights and provides utility beyond ordinary combat. He can build Cathedrals and Trading Posts, supporting map control and access to Mexican infrastructure. Preserve him while exploring so he can reveal Treasures and establish valuable sites; do not use him as the only unit holding a forward position. The Cathedral and Padre work together as part of Mexico’s distinctive support system.
Keep the hero available through recovery
Like the relevant Mexican hero rules, El Padre can be rescued after being incapacitated rather than simply disappearing permanently. A Cathedral can restore or support him under the applicable conditions, so placing one safely can preserve his long-term value. His ability to build and explore makes a temporary loss costly even if he can return. Escort him with military units, and distinguish his hero mechanics from the behavior of ordinary Priests or campaign-only characters.
