Settlement & allied options

A Trading Post at the settlement unlocks the alliance. Inca players use a Tambo for the same purpose. The listed allied roster includes Apache Cavalry. Its settlement offers these technologies: Apache Cactus Use, Apache Endurance, Apache Raiders. The available roster and technologies can vary with the selected map and release.

When to ally

Scout the map for a Apache settlement before spending resources on an alliance. Use it when the listed unit or technology fills a need in the army or economy, and protect the Trading Post that provides access.

Apache Cavalry: fast ranged anti-cavalry

Apache Cavalry is Commerce Age ranged cavalry with 200 hit points, 30% ranged resistance and 7.25 speed. It costs 90 Food and 90 Coin and takes 40 seconds to train. Its ranged attack deals 22 damage at range 12, with a 3× bonus against Heavy cavalry and additional bonuses against Hand shock troops and Artillery. Its damage against Villagers is reduced, so use its mobility to screen against mounted threats rather than assigning it as a general worker-raiding unit.

Settlement upgrades change army mobility

Apache Endurance raises land military speed by 5% for 300 Wood and 300 Coin, researched in 10 seconds. Apache Raiders adds 1.0 to Apache Cavalry’s bonus damage against Villagers for 150 Wood and 150 Coin. Apache Cactus Use costs 150 Wood and 100 Coin; it improves Villager hit points and speed by 15% and gives a 5% hit-point and speed increase to units affected by Villager upgrades. These are distinct effects, so select the technology that matches the army or economy already in play.

Settlement alliance and access

Apache settlements are listed on Great Plains, Mexico, Painted Desert, Sonora and Texas. Build a Trading Post, or an Inca Tambo, on the site to unlock allied research and unit training; the Native Embassy also trains Apache Cavalry. Scout and protect the settlement before investing in upgrades, and use the actual roster and map layout for the active release.
