Athos Monasteries

Athos Monasteries is an Exploration Age technology from Knights of the Mediterranean. For the House of Phanar alliance, it converts a Trading Post or Tambo into a source of two monastery wagons, mine-based Coin income, healing and civilization-dependent religious units.

Effect & research conditions

Research it at a Trading Post or Tambo built on a House of Phanar palace. The technology costs 340 Wood and takes 30 seconds. It sends two Athos Monastery Wagons to the Home City shipment point; each wagon can establish an Athos Monastery on a Mine. The resulting structure gathers Coin from that Mine, heals nearby friendly units, trains the healer type supported by the player’s civilization, and provides access to Catharsis, Phanarion and Filiki Eteria. It cannot train Missionaries or Surgeons.

Research condition

Knights of the Mediterranean; House of Phanar alliance; Trading Post or Tambo on the palace; Exploration Age; 340 Wood; 30 seconds.

When to research

Choose this branch when the map has reachable Mines worth securing and the army can benefit from a forward healing point. The two wagons let the player cover separate resource sites or place one monastery near the front while keeping the other for a safer Mine. Because the structure depends on a Mine, scout the intended locations and protect the wagons during construction; a monastery placed where the Coin source is already exhausted or exposed may not repay the investment.

Wagons, healing access and alliance technologies

Athos Monasteries costs 340 Wood and takes 30 seconds to research in the Exploration Age at a Trading Post or Tambo on a House of Phanar palace. It delivers two Athos Monastery Wagons, enables several healer types to train at Athos Monasteries, and unlocks Catharsis, Phanarion and Filiki Eteria. The Wagons can be placed on mines for Coin generation and unique research, as described by the in-game text. They need population space and safe placement; the healer and technology access still requires the appropriate Monastery and follow-up costs.

Plan the site and the follow-up

Use the technology when the two Wagons can establish useful positions and the army can benefit from healing or the unlocked upgrades. A mine site can provide income, but a remote wagon may be difficult to protect; place the Monasteries where the force can defend them. The unlock lists do not mean Catharsis, Phanarion and Filiki Eteria are researched automatically. Check their own requirements and decide which one supports the matchup before allocating additional resources.
