Indonesia (revolution)
Indonesia is an Industrial Age Revolutionary Nation for the Dutch and Portuguese, with Yogyakarta as its Home City. Settlers become Javanese Spearmen, while four Cetbang Cannons arrive and further cannons can be trained. The route also unlocks Wokou Junks at Docks, making it a flexible land-and-water transition whose late-game strength depends heavily on shipments and trade-route experience.

Access & effects
Population space becomes 200; Settler, Merchant and Fishing Boat training is removed. Javanese Spearmen can be trained at Barracks, Forts, Galleons and Wokou Junks. Cetbang Cannons can be trained at Artillery Foundries, Forts, Galleons and Wokou Junks. Revolutionaries remain trainable at Town Centers. Wokou Junks can be trained at Docks and can train the same units as Galleons or Fluyts, extending production to water. These building and ship options support both a land army and naval production, but require a prepared economy.

Army & economy
Indonesia is strongest after a fast Industrial build that has generated Home City experience and when the player can control a Trade Route. The Sumatran Elephants shipment is a key priority: each send adds a War Elephant to subsequent shipments, including infinite shipments, and upgrades War Elephants to Honored while enabling their production at Stables and Forts. Aceh Pepper Exports supports economic recovery; sequence it with the elephant cards and other shipments rather than exhausting the deck on low-impact sends. Use the cannons and Spearmen for the land front and Docks/Junks when the water map is important.
A shipment-driven elephant strategy
Indonesia can turn every later Home City shipment into an additional War Elephant after Sumatran Elephants has been sent. The effect stacks: repeated sends increase the elephant component added to subsequent shipments. The card also upgrades War Elephants to Honored and enables them at Stables and Forts. This makes shipment order unusually important. Send Sumatran Elephants early enough that later cards benefit, but first secure the experience and resources to keep the sequence moving. Riding School and Native Treaty support can help with elephant production and population planning.
Trade Route and civilization preparation
A fast Industrial strategy and a controlled Trade Route support Indonesia because experience funds the shipment plan. Advanced Trading Posts can help secure that route. Dutch players can prepare Bank shipments and resource trickles; Portuguese players can use Covered Wagons and Donatários to recover after sending Aceh Pepper Exports. Infantry hit-point cards support Javanese Spearmen and Revolutionaries, while team Native Weapon Trade raises native-unit creation capacity. These are supporting choices rather than mandatory cards: select those that match the parent economy and map.
Land and naval production together
The four opening Cetbang Cannons can pressure defenses, with further production available at Artillery Foundries, Forts, Galleons and Wokou Junks. Javanese Spearmen can also be produced from several land and naval structures, while Docks unlock Wokou Junks with Galleon/Fluyt unit production. Establish the water infrastructure before relying on this flexibility. A map without relevant water should not divert resources to ships; on coastal maps, the Junks can support transport and naval production while the land force protects the shore.
Sumatran Elephants and shipment stacking
Sumatran Elephants changes the value of every later Home City shipment: each send adds a War Elephant to subsequent shipments, including infinite ones, and repeated sends stack. It also upgrades War Elephants to Honored and enables them at Stables and Forts. This makes the order of cards a central Indonesia decision. Sending the card once establishes the effect; sending it again before the rest of the deck can add more elephants to every later shipment. The player should secure enough Home City experience and Trade Route access to keep the sequence moving, then use Riding School or Native Treaty support if the elephant plan is the chosen finish.
Aceh Pepper Exports and economic recovery
Aceh Pepper Exports is the key economic shipment that helps restart resource flow after the Settler conversion. Until it arrives, the player needs to rely on prepared resources, trickles or the parent civilization’s economy. Dutch Banks and Colbertism can provide Coin support; Portuguese Covered Wagons and Donatários can help build a recovery economy while also adding Town Center capacity for Revolutionaries. Factory shipments and early economic cards are useful because Indonesia depends on a continuing supply of shipments. Plan the timing so the transition does not leave the player unable to pay for cannons, elephants or the next card.
Recommended supporting cards and trade
Advanced Trading Posts helps secure the route experience that funds Indonesia’s shipment-heavy plan. Infantry Hitpoints supports Javanese Spearmen and Revolutionaries, while team Native Weapon Trade increases the creation limit for native units such as War Elephants. Portuguese Engineering School can improve Cetbang Cannon production, and Navigation School can speed Wokou Junk production. Dutch Bank shipments and Portuguese economic cards serve different parent economies, so the same revolution should not use an identical deck without adjustment. Prioritize trade access, then add the support card for the army component that the map makes most valuable.
A flexible land-and-water transition
Indonesia is not limited to an elephant strategy. Four Cetbang Cannons arrive immediately, Javanese Spearmen replace workers, Revolutionaries can still be trained at Town Centers, and Wokou Junks can be trained at Docks and can train units as Galleons or Fluyts do. Cannons can be trained at Artillery Foundries, Forts, Galleons and Wokou Junks; Spearmen also have multiple land and ship production sites. This makes the route adaptable to maps with a Trade Route, coastline or naval objectives. Decide whether the next shipment supports land siege, elephants or ship production instead of dividing resources among all three without a clear plan.
Population, worker limits and army replacement
The 200 population cap provides room for the new army, but Settler, Merchant and Fishing Boat training is disabled. Existing Villagers become Javanese Spearmen, while Revolutionaries remain trainable at Town Centers. This gives Indonesia more than one infantry path after the transition, but it does not restore the flexible economy that was lost. Use the initial four cannons and prepared shipments to secure a safe area, then choose whether the next investment goes to elephant stacking, artillery or naval production.
Production buildings and coordinated fronts
The transition allows Cetbang Cannons from Artillery Foundries, Forts, Galleons and Wokou Junks, and Javanese Spearmen from Barracks, Forts, Galleons and Junks. These shared production sites let a controlled coastline reinforce both fronts, but only if the structures survive. Establish the Dock and artillery production before committing to the ship plan; otherwise concentrate on the land army and shipment sequence.
