Age-up reward & access
Selected for the Industrial Age; available to Europeans except the British, Maltese, and Portuguese. The recorded advance cost is 2,000 Food and 1,200 Coin and takes 90 seconds. Reward details: Industrial Age reward: See article. The available choices and exact reward depend on civilization and game release.
When to choose it
Choose The Cavalry Marshal when its listed reward supports the next economic or military objective. Compare its cost and advance time with other available politicians, and check that the reward belongs to the current civilization and release.
Industrial Age politician and shipment
The Cavalry Marshal is an Industrial Age politician available to several European civilizations. Choosing him costs 2,000 Food and 1,200 Coin and takes 90 seconds to advance. When the age-up completes, a civilization-specific group of Cavalry appears at the Home City shipment point. The reward is therefore both an age advancement and an immediate army delivery, making it attractive when the player has an established economy and wants to turn the Industrial transition into a timing push. The available cavalry differs by civilization, so the politician's value depends on the unit that arrives and the Home City cards already selected.
Civilization cavalry rewards
The listed age-up shipments include five Hussars for the Danes, nine Ruyters for the Dutch, three Cuirassiers for the French, seven Uhlans for the Germans, six Dragoons for the Italians, five Delis for the Ottomans, five Winged Hussars for the Poles, seven Cossacks for the Russians, six Lancers for the Spanish and five Hakkapelits for the Swedes. The Italian Advanced Politicians card raises the Dragoon shipment to nine. Several quantities changed in Definitive Edition: Germans and Russians went from six to seven, while Spanish Lancers changed from five to six; the Ottomans now receive Delis rather than Hussars. These differences mean a generic description of the Cavalry Marshal as a fixed-size shipment is misleading.
Choose it when the delivered unit fits the army
The politician supports a cavalry-focused Industrial transition because the shipment arrives together with the age-up. Germans can convert the reward into a sharp Uhlan timing attack, especially if their deck and earlier choices already support Uhlans. Dutch Ruyters suit a ranged Cavalry force, French Cuirassiers provide a heavy hand Cavalry group, and Italian Dragoons complement a ranged Cavalry plan. The Ottoman, Russian and Spanish rewards can pair with The Scout in the Fortress Age, since those civilizations can use its cavalry support before taking the Marshal. These are composition choices, not universal build orders: if the opponent has strong anti-Cavalry or the map makes mounted units ineffective, another politician may produce more value.
Support the shipment with Home City cards
Cavalry Combat provides +15% hit points and attack, while Riding School reduces cavalry training time by 40% for most eligible civilizations. Other military shipments can add a frontline unit or cover a weakness that the delivered Cavalry cannot handle. Advanced Arsenal is another shared option for many civilizations. The best support depends on the unit type: a hand Cavalry group benefits differently from Ruyters or Dragoons, and heavy anti-Cavalry units can punish a plan that spends everything on mounted troops. Use the age-up batch to create immediate pressure, then make the next shipment reinforce the same role or counter the opponent's response.
Industrial and Imperial follow-up choices
The Cavalry Marshal is not automatically the strongest route to a late-game cavalry army. Most Imperial Age politicians do not further improve Cavalry, and a player may instead choose Imperial upgrades for the units already fielded or consider a revolution with cavalry-related benefits. The Royalist is an exception for some strategies. Italians can send Advanced Politicians before choosing The Royalist so that its reward becomes Royal Dragoons; combined with the Marshal's Dragoon shipment, the two politician choices can provide a large Dragoon force. The choice depends on deck preparation and timing: a concentrated cavalry transition is powerful when it can attack promptly, but the investment weakens the player's ability to respond if the opponent fields strong counters.
Original edition and Definitive Edition access
Before Definitive Edition, the Cavalry Marshal's availability was tied to Home City level for some civilizations: French decks needed level 20, Russian decks level 40 and Dutch decks level 60. Definitive Edition removed those level requirements. Patch history also changed the quantity of some age-up rewards and replaced the Ottoman Hussars with Delis in update 13.27885. Players using original-version guides should therefore check which edition and patch the advice describes. The politician remains an Industrial Age choice, but deck access and the exact number of Cavalry delivered have changed over time.
Civilization-specific follow-up plans
The immediate Cavalry shipment is only the opening of the plan. Germans can support Uhlans with Lipizzaner Cavalry for +15% hit points and attack, or combine shipments that improve the wider cavalry force. French players can use Thoroughbreds to reduce the cost of Cuirassiers, Hussars and Dragoons, while Dutch players can pair Ruyters with Peace of Münster to enable Envoys to build Stables. Italians can use Advanced Politicians to increase the Dragoon delivery, then use their cavalry cards and later age-up options to extend the same ranged Cavalry force. These examples work because the age-up creates an immediate group and the deck improves its efficiency afterward; they do not make the Cavalry Marshal equally valuable in every matchup.
Account for counters before committing
A cavalry-heavy transition can be punished by Pikemen, Skirmishers, Dragoons or artillery depending on which unit arrives. The reward's speed can help take map control, but it does not remove the need for a complementary force. Use the first shipment to threaten exposed workers, artillery or a vulnerable flank, then add units that can fight the opponent's anti-Cavalry response. Spanish and Ottoman players can combine the age-up with nearby support such as Missionaries or other military shipments; Russians can strengthen Cossacks with Boyars. If the enemy is already prepared with a hard counter, spend the Industrial advance on economy or a different politician reward rather than sending valuable Cavalry into an unfavorable fight.
Revolutions and later cavalry roles
Some revolutions change the value of a Cavalry Marshal plan by replacing or transforming the units already trained. Argentina can provide options such as Blandengues or Caballeros for eligible civilizations, while a United States revolution can grant Lee's Continental Light Dragoons to several European civilizations and convert their Dragoons, Ruyters or Hakkapelits into Carbine Cavalry. Dutch South Africa and German-specific shipment options also reshape cavalry production. These cards are situational and require the corresponding revolution or civilization deck. Before choosing a revolution, compare the transformed army to the original unit and check whether the card preserves the role the Marshal shipment was meant to fill.
When the age-up arrives
Because the cavalry arrives at the Home City shipment point as soon as the Industrial Age is reached, plan a safe rally point before starting the 90-second advance. The shipment can be exposed if the rally point is near enemy pressure. Move the new units together with the existing force and use their numbers to create a short window of map control while the opponent adjusts to the age-up. The reward's strength comes from timing as much as its raw unit count: a shipment that arrives after the opponent has already built counters may be less valuable than a different politician or an earlier military shipment.
Industrial Age cavalry reward
The Cavalry Marshal is an Industrial Age politician available to Europeans except the British, Maltese and Portuguese in the recorded roster. The advance takes 90 seconds and costs 2,000 Food plus 1,200 Coin. Its reward is civilization-specific; the current shared profile directs players to the relevant faction entry rather than giving one universal unit shipment. Inspect the age-up preview before choosing it and identify which cavalry or upgrade the selected nation receives.
Choose it for the cavalry plan
A cavalry reward is useful when the army can exploit mobility, protect the units on arrival and support them with the right infantry. Use the 90-second transition to scout enemy counters and prepare population space. If the opposing army fields anti-cavalry troops or the base is under pressure, another Industrial politician may provide better immediate value. Do not infer a specific unit count from the title; check the current civilization and release. A well-timed cavalry package can reinforce a flank, but it should be part of a complete army rather than a standalone answer.
