Scenario faction roster
The lists are grouped into units, buildings and technologies, then organized by the Age recorded in the game data. Shared options can appear in more than one civilization index; inclusion does not mean an item is unique. Follow an entry to check its cost, production or research site, prerequisites, counters and version band. A Home City Card, map alliance or scenario rule may change access, so this list is not a fixed build order.
Scope and availability
Scope: Age of Empires III campaign or scenario content. Availability is mission-specific; follow the linked scenario for the actual roster and objectives.
How to read the tree
Use this roster while reading the related story missions. The mission page determines which units are actually available and what the player must do; use individual unit entries for combat roles and values. Do not assume campaign access carries over into multiplayer.

Check the entry for version and prerequisites
An index can include options recorded across multiple Age of Empires III releases. Older faction names, card unlocks, research prerequisites and campaign-only rules can change availability. Check the linked page’s version band and conditions before applying an option to a specific game.
Act I: Blood roster and limits
The Knights of St. John are a campaign faction used in Act I: Blood. Their options are narrower than a standard civilization tree: the campaign generally limits them to the Fortress Age and provides little access to gunpowder units. Mortars are available in the Fortress Age, while Falconets depend on Home City shipments; some scenarios also supply Highlanders in the starting force. These are mission and shipment rules, not a universal production line. Use the linked scenario to see which units and shipments are enabled before committing to a siege or expecting artillery to be trainable.
Read the mission before choosing a counter
The linked missions cover different tasks, including the underground defense in Into the Caves, the pirate encounter in Pirates!, the Spanish Treasure Fleet and The Ottoman Fort. A unit shown in the faction roster may be absent from a particular scenario, while a mission may provide a starting group that the general index does not describe. Check the objective and starting army for the current battle, then use the unit pages for exact attack, resistance and population values. In particular, protect shipment-dependent Falconets and the Fortress Age Mortars while they move to a siege position; the roster page itself does not grant artillery or replace the scenario’s access rules.
