Role, availability & values

Production is available through Tavern (Europeans), Monastery (Asians), or Lombard (Italians). It has 110 hit points and 30% ranged resistance. It moves at 4.5 speed and uses 3 population. Training costs 110 Coin; it takes 35 seconds to train. Attack profile: Hand attack deals 14 damage. Ranged attack deals 14 damage. Siege attack deals 12 damage. Hand attack bonuses: 2.0× against Light infantry, 2.0× against Counter skirmisher, 1.5× against Heavy infantry, 0.75× against Cavalry, and 0.75× against Hand shock trooper. Ranged attack bonuses: 2.0× against Light infantry, 2.0× against Counter skirmisher, 1.5× against Heavy infantry, 0.6× against Cavalry, and 0.6× against Hand shock trooper. Special ability or role: Combat Promotion.

Matchup & timing

Hand attack is especially effective against Light infantry (2×), Counter skirmisher (2×), Heavy infantry (1.5×). Ranged attack is especially effective against Light infantry (2×), Counter skirmisher (2×), Heavy infantry (1.5×). Its reduced multipliers against Cavalry (0.75×), Hand shock trooper (0.75×), Cavalry (0.6×), Hand shock trooper (0.6×) make it less suitable for those targets. Use ranged fire to focus Light infantry, Counter skirmisher, and Heavy infantry before they can close; hold the melee attack for Light infantry, Counter skirmisher, and Heavy infantry when they enter contact. Keep a frontline between this unit and threats that can reach it safely.

Outlaw profile and recruitment

The Hajduk is a European rifle outlaw introduced in Knights of the Mediterranean. It is available on selected maps, including Anatolia, Balkan Mountains, Budapest, Carpathians, Dnieper Basin, Hungarian Plains, Lithuania, Pripet Marshes, Vistula Basin, and Wallachia. The current profile costs 110 Coin, takes 35 seconds to train, uses three population, and has 110 hit points, 30 percent ranged resistance, speed 4.5, and line of sight 20. Its ranged attack deals 14 damage at range 20 every three seconds, with a 14 damage hand attack and a combat promotion ability. The high population cost is typical of an outlaw and limits how many fit into an army, while the Coin only cost can be attractive when Food or Wood is reserved for another plan.

Counter-skirmisher role

Hajduks are counter-skirmishers. Their ranged multipliers make them effective against Light infantry such as Foot archers and Skirmishers, and they can also contribute against Heavy infantry. Their range of 20 lets them engage before many short range units can respond. The unit is less valuable against Heavy cavalry, which can close quickly, and artillery can outrange or punish it. The Hajduk's moderate speed and three population cost mean it should operate in a supported group, not chase cavalry alone. Use it to answer an opponent who relies on Light infantry, then add a screen to keep cavalry away. If the enemy shifts to units that counter rifle infantry, stop producing Hajduks and change the composition.

Combat Promotion and upgrades

Combat Promotion improves Hajduks as they earn military kills, encouraging the player to preserve experienced units. It can raise the value of a group over time, but promotion is not a reason to take poor fights. Fortress and Imperial Age unit upgrades also increase hit points and damage. These upgrades matter when Hajduks remain an active part of the army, though their three population cost makes it expensive to build a large late game mass. Their long range can be useful in a fortified defense or behind a frontline, but keep them out of melee because their 110 hit points do not support prolonged close combat.

Civilization and revolution routes

Lakota players can receive Hajduks through Outlaw Band and Bandit Gang shipments. Argentina and Maya revolutions have similar card access, while Haiti can use Brethren of the Coast to enable Battleship training when Hajduks are present in the Tavern pool. Hungary and Romania revolutions can send a Hajduks card that adds a unit to existing Outposts and Blockhouses and unlocks production in Taverns, Barracks, Forts, Galleons, and Outposts; the Russian Blockhouse rule is a specific variant. These routes are not standard European Barracks access. Check the map's outlaw availability and the civilization's Home City cards before planning around continuous production.

Version changes and army planning

The Hajduk was previously a variant of the Renegado before becoming a proper outlaw in Knights of the Mediterranean. Its ranged attack and range changed in updates: early data listed 18 damage at range 12, later updates reduced the attack and raised range to 18 and then 20. A subsequent patch brought its ranged and hand attack to 14 and improved the firing animation for kiting. Current values should therefore be used instead of older high damage, short range profiles. The unit is strongest in the Commerce Age, where its counter-skirmisher role can answer early ranged infantry; in later Ages, other mercenaries or upgraded units can outclass it. Invest when it fills a gap in the current matchup, and do not let an old profile mislead the resource plan.

Combat Promotion and kiting

Combat Promotion rewards Hajduks that survive and participate in several engagements. Use the range 20 attack to kite Light infantry or Heavy infantry, moving after a volley so the target spends time closing. The improved firing animation added in later updates makes this style more practical. Do not let the group chase cavalry or enter a fortified position where artillery can fire freely. Promotion adds value to veteran units, but preserving them requires choosing favorable matchups and keeping the retreat path open.

Outlaw population and resource budget

The Hajduk costs only Coin, but uses three population per unit. This can make it attractive when Food is needed for Villagers or age advancement, yet a large Hajduk force consumes army space quickly. Check the current population cap before sending an outlaw shipment and preserve room for artillery or cavalry that handle its counters. The map's outlaw availability also matters: a Tavern cannot produce Hajduks on every map unless a card or revolution adds the unit. Use a small number to counter-skirmish rather than treating the unit as a universal replacement for ordinary infantry.

Commerce Age value and later transitions

The Hajduk's longest value window is usually in the Commerce Age, when its range and counter-skirmisher role can give an army a unit that answers Foot archers and Skirmishers. As the match progresses, other mercenaries or upgraded national units may gain better statistics and support. If the player reaches a later Age, reassess the composition before sending another Hajduk card. Keep the promoted units that already have combat experience, but use new resources for a unit that answers the opponent's current army. The Hajduk remains a useful specialist on maps with outlaw production, yet its three population and limited map availability make it a less flexible long term line than ordinary barracks infantry.

Choosing the target

Focus the Hajduk line on Light infantry and use its range to fire before the target responds. If Heavy cavalry or artillery enters the fight, move the outlaws behind the screen rather than forcing a poor exchange.

Outlaw rifleman that counters light infantry

The Hajduk is an outlaw armed with a rifle and designed to counter light infantry such as foot archers and Skirmishers. Its bonus against those targets lets it support an army that would otherwise struggle against ranged infantry. Like other outlaws it costs relatively little Coin but occupies more population than ordinary infantry, so compare the Saloon option with standard production before ordering a large group.

Commerce Age timing and late-game limits

Hajduks are strongest when their counter role matters early. Their high population burden and outlaw upgrade path make them less attractive as standard units receive stronger age improvements. Keep them behind a durable front line, focus on light infantry and withdraw from Cavalry or artillery. If the opponent stops producing their target type, shift resources into a more flexible unit rather than continuing to train a specialist without a job.
