When to research

Research early enough to use several of the listed technologies afterward. The savings apply only to their Wood cost, not to Food, Coin or other resources. The upgrade pays off through repeated purchases; if few eligible technologies remain in the deck or the match is nearly over, spend on the next army or economic need instead.

Technologies with no Wood cost

The effect removes the Wood cost from Amalgamation, Artificial Fertilizer, Bookkeeping, Steel Traps, Seed Drill, Placer Mines, Refineries, Long Lines, Homesteading, Hunting Dogs, Gill Nets, Selective Breeding, Earth Ceremony, Earth Gift Ceremony, Rice Markets, Dike-Controlled Canals, Rice Trade, Irrigation Channels, Rice Surplus, Paddy Threshing, Imperial Bureaucracy, Civil Servants, Flume and Ditching, Blanket Filters, Yozakura Lanterns, Hanami Parties, Professional Hunters, Hunting Eagles, Green Corn Ceremony, Harvest Ceremony, Great Feast, Village Dogs, Snares and Gold Purification. Their other costs still apply.

Technologies with a half Wood cost

Subsistence Farming, Swing Plow, Vegetable Carbon, Crop Rotation, New World Crops and Cash Crops receive a 50% reduction to Wood cost rather than becoming Wood-free. Research Cherokee Basket Weaving before buying these upgrades, and check each technology’s remaining Food, Coin or other cost separately.
